Broadband 4 Borth

I was just {speculatively} looking at the BT site to see what chances there are of Broadband arriving in Ynyslas. As Ynyslas is on the Borth exchange. It appears that there is already a campaign registered with BT. So everyone in Borth & Ynyslas needs to register their interest with BT.

OK...I've emailed Tracey and apparently we need 100 people/households to register their interest before BT will even issue a trigger point.

What we need is for all the locals to register an interest so that we can get things rolling. (you'll need to know your BT account number)

What's really annoying is in the places with broadband there must be 10-20times the required interest so surely this should contribute to providing broadband to rural areas.

I'll keep you all updated with any progress

Right....

Theres a public meeting on Tuesday 17 February at 18.30 in the Sports
Hall to discuss the broadband developments for Borth. We need as many people as possible to go to it to show that there is indeed support for Broadband here. The meeting is partly to gauge the interest and partly to decide a way forward.

There are several possible options that could be considered.

The 3-t scheme. This would be set up by a commercial company
and they have undertaken to create local jobs. However, both
Ray Quant the local councilor and some others have some reservations about the scheme.

Community Broadband scheme. The village itself could set up
a group and build and administer the system itself. This
could be cheaper to the end users as it removes the middle
man.

BT Broadband. We could just wait for BT to enable the
exchange. This is probably at least a year away.
The other schemes mentioned above also have the advantage
of being SDSL rather than ADSL and offering a greater bandwidth.

3-t want to install the system within a couple of
months if there is enough interest!

Broadband was on the agenda of a recent council meeting, and one of the councillors claimed that she had heard that BT would
install broadband in Borth by April. I have heard rumours that
BT is planning to bring forward it's broadband timetable. However,
the opinion of other CABSG members is that this may be a spoiler
tactic against other schemes such as the 3-t one. BT are definitely
worried about these other schemes.

Even if BT do bring forward the ADSL timeline we need to consider the
other options as some of these offer greater than ADSL bandwidth.
In 3 years or so ADSL will probably be as restrictive as a 56k modem
is now.

P.S. I know this is a little off topic, but if I can get broadband here it would help, and it would also mean I could install a weather station on the house which would update live wind and weather data to this site so you could ALL know exactly what you are missing whilst at work!!
