Deep sea race... Westward Ho! to Lundy Island
Anyone fancy this...
quote: A Deep Sea Kiteboarding Race has never been attempted yet in UK waters, this September/October the first will be held of the
North Devon coast, hopefully this will go towards developing an Annual Deep Sea Kiteboarding Race in the UK….taking the sport
forward in new directions.
The plan is simple….! The Island Of Lundy lays 25miles from the shores of Westward Ho! Beach, with a South Westerly wind the
riders will need to hold there line to hit the 50 meter strip of beach available to land on‚Ķ.Lundy is 3 ¬? miles long by just
¬? a mile wide and lies lengthways due north to south‚Ķ.with 400 foot cliffs either side the landing site is a
challenge…..not only will riders have to cope with fatigue and increasingly strong winds….but six currents meet and
entangle with each other around the island….this is a challenge for riders to push there Kiteboarding into a new
direction…no technical tricks or fancy aerials required….just stamina and the balls to do it….
Those who make the crossing will be welcomed by the friendly and welcoming locals, accommodation on the Island for 1 night, a chilled
evening in the pub and then a return journey on the ferry….all included…
Interested….then mail deepsearace@ukkbc.com for an entry form….only 20 places due to
safety back up being limited….
The only requirement’s for riders….you must be competent, fit, up for a challenge and raise £200 which ALL goes towards
the RNLI and local Coast Guard….who happen to be providing the back up craft….
