Hello! Help for a german...
Hello Wales!!!
I am from Germany and have moved to London to work here. Too big too loud too many people - too far from the sea!
I am planning to drive to the west coast and was wonder if anybody could give me a tip where this weekend would be good for
surfing/windsurfing in Wales? The easterly wind seems not to be the best of all wind directions but as they said there could be some
kind of wind it might be a good idea to check with you guys...
Any other advice on great places to see or things to do would be absolutely great!!
Thank you very much
Olli
PS: I am leaving tonight so i will only be able to read your help before the end of today... sorry
cheers again

Gru?æ Olli,
As you say, NE winds are not a brilliant direction though there are a number of spots that come to mind: Newton beach - Porthcawl, S
Wales; Branksome Chine & Sandbanks - Poole; Stone Island Lake - Poole Harbour (just S of the chain ferry); Overcome - Weymouth;
Portland Harbour. Most of these places are likely to be gusty, but that's life in the West with Easterly winds!
Take a look at my wind/location finder on the Bristol Nomads website:
http://www.bristolnomads.org.uk/location_reports.htm
Click the appropriate wind direction on the compass & then select your area.
Besten Gl¬?ckw¬?nsche,
Martin

thanks a lot Martin
this is great, will have a look at the website. I would normally go to cornwall to at least catch some waves but my lady wants to see
something else than cornwall or the southcoast. So i thought i check wales. Must be beautiful there.
Cheers and have a good weekend

Hi guys,
nice to see some other Germans use the F-o-N forum.
I am just about to settle back in Germany but have lived in Telford for the past 2 years. I used to go wind surfing at Borth, really
nice there. Over Easter I will be at the South Coast in Charmouth. (See my posting Easter Weekend in Charmouth in the Travel thread)
Have fun, the UK is a great place for our sport.

Stroho... You could come to Borth like a few other people this weekend.... the Estuary is perfect in Easterlies. Nice bump and jump
conditions.
More details in the Beachguide. I would write more but I'm about to go out for a sailing session now!!

Actually, it was a bit of a shambles - ended up not sailing but got great waves in west wales for surfing. Freshwater west is amazing!
- Friday was very big, saturday was smaller. How is it there when you have a southwesterly? Must be pretty awsome. Also went to a
little break at Manorbier. Really nice as well.
Uunfortunately, I couldn't find Borth ... (STUPID) we also stopped over in Miumbles and Oxwich - you can tell that you are lucky
guys!
See you soon. Will come back!
O.
PS: So where is borth ... sorry for the stupid question!!

Why didn't you go sailing??... there must have been wind down there.
FW is indeed a good swell-puller, and Manorbier is a nice wave too.... there are loads of good waves in Pembrokeshire... I missed the
fact that you were after waves for surfing as well!
Similarly The Gower has a good selection of waves and windsurfing beaches as I'm sure you found out. You should have heading out to
Llangenith or Broughton whilst on The Gower, they pick up more swell than Oxwich (by a longshot) and wold have been pretty good in the
NE's.
Borth is much further up the coast, north of Aberystwyth... take a look at the beachguides on this site.... Its marked on the map of
Wales.
