El Ghouna - 30k up the coast from Hurghada, loads of open space, no wind shadows, huge lagoon of waist deep water1/2k wide and maybe 10k long, pretty quite town tho so no good for party animals, safe, and you don't get harrassed. Been there 5 times and will defniitely go again. Cyprus is ok, pretty consistant wind May to September, not a huge choice of beaches but they DO drive on the right side of the road!

I too would recommend El Gouna, have been 3 times myself and its a lovely safe place. Girlfriend/Wife friendly too as they can wander around the boutiques/beach etc without feeling threatened.

Best hotel would be the Movenpick if you are going as a couple, top notch for not many squids, otherwise Captains Inn B&B if you are with mates. Although there's not a great deal of difference in price.

Hey Phil, just back from a top week in Kefalos - Kos (Greek Island). Mainly Windsurfing but had a great day kitesurfing at the new kite centre just outside town. The beach has cross on winds from the left with some quite nice waves but no lagoons or flat water. Not too crowded either 4 of us on the water. Also its Realy cheap £460 for me and the misus self catering for the week and eating out only cost about £20 each night for both of us includings drinks.

Hey Crezzee, do you have any more info about the kitesurfing near Kefalos? A website address? Whereabouts is it? Is it anywhere near the windsurf centre? And can you walk there from the apartments (like the windsurf place) or do you need transport? I'm guessing the kitesurfing doesn't take place in Kefalos Bay.
Cheers,
Andrew

Would also be interested to hear about Kefalos - where did you stay and which centre did you use? Guessing hire was extra as that sounds very cheap!?

Any idea what the wind is like in September - I'll have a search too.

I went there about 8-10 years or so ago when there was a Sunsail centre - don't think its still there now.....

I booked it through Freedom holidays:

http://www.freedomholidays.co.uk/ />

The windsurfing hire cost £120 for the week and its all top quality 07 kit.

The kite centre is about 1.5km from the windsurf centre about 5 mins on our moped you could walk it but its up a steep hill and on the other side of the island. Have a look at the map in "Fact File" on above website. Kite centre is on the north west facing bay just above "Ag Stefanos".

Kitesurf hire is quite expensive about £15 per hour but again its good 07 Naish kit Boxer SLE, Shockwaves and X1's but would take my own kit next time.

Lots of SC type studios & B+B accomidation we stayed in the Archontia Studios with great views over Kefalos bay but about 25mins walk to windsurfing hence moped.

Wind stats from website:-

% Days FORCE 4+ for a minimum of 3 hours per day

May 61%
June 72%
July 79%
Aug 67%
Sept 59%
Oct 50%

Will try and put a couple of pics on here.

Thanks for the info will take a look. A flyer from Crystal greeted me on my when I got home - their clubs look about as good as Sunsail and not too pricey for mid September in Greece or Turkey, hmmmmm....just sorting snowboard holiday for next year too - this month is looking expensive!

Thanks for the Kos info Crezzee. I've used Freedom Holidays in the past and they're really good. Only trouble is, with the crap summer we're having, it ain't so cheap to go there this year! Will start ringing around the week before methinks...
