Geocaching

Al,

I don't know much about Geocaching, in fact you are the only person I know that does it.

I just read about the travel bug that you left, What have you found so far?

Yep, the Forces-of-Nature Surf Bus travel bug has been set on its way with a mission to visit the beaches of the UK... Hopefully some of the people that find it and move it from cache to cache will post some photos here too.

As far as things that I have found go, most of the stuff in the caches are pretty worthless really, although Morgan likes them and there are rumours of some caches containing more expensive goodies, but that really isn't the point. I use it as an excuse to go out for a walk, either with the family for easier caches or out in the hills for slightly more difficult caches. It is also an excuse for a few more gadgets and toys and does give you a sense of achievement when you find the actual container.

Some of them are more difficult with puzzles to solve and can be in prety inaccessible places too... Apparently there are over 300,000 caches around the world now and that number grows all the time.

As well as finding the caches themselves you can also log any geocoins or travelbugs that you find in them too. All fairly pointless really, but it is just a game and can be quite challenging. Certainly something to do when there is no wind or waves.

Al.

It was only a matter of time, but I have now set up a geocaching forum so that people in the area (or visiting the area) can arrange trips out into the hills looking for caches.

We're heading off to do a couple this weekend in the hills above Aberdovey (Well, there is no wind forecast) so it should be a good day out.

Hi Al,

i only learned about geocaching from a link on your website and find it quite interesting.

use a gps for when i am out walking on non windy days.

i was surprised how many there are within a few miles of my home here in deepest north derbyshire.

be good to have a guide to borth/dyfi' local spots for those windless days in the summer.

thanks

Mark

Just join up at aber-cachers and see where people are going.... It's aimed at the Borth/Dyfi area so the local geocaches should get lots of exposure there... There are quite a few in Borth itself now and of course lots in the hills around here too.

It's certainly a good excuse to get out and do something when there isn't any wind/surf.

Not much surf at the mo... a few inches but clean!

Maybe some on Saturday, but it looks like it'll only be 1-2 foot at the mo, I shall keep an eye on it though, but will be out geocaching in the hills as well whatever the surf does.
