converting a transit van into a camper any advice??

I am thinking of getting a cheap ford transit and converting it myself. Are there any good websites for getting all the bits and pieces needed? Can anyone suggest a good cheap reliable van to convert?

Here's some stuff about the way I converted my Transit into a camper come toybox.... It didn't cost much to do and for me was better than a traditional camper style conversion as it provides much more space for boards, sails etc but still lenty of room for cooking and sleeping.

just done it! Loads of advice too much to type - ask me at the beach sometime

There are a few good sites there is a self build one called http://www.sbmcc.co.uk/links.htm
very helpful people on it.

Planning is really key, don't want to get loads done and then realise you should have sorted something at the start. Decide exactly what you want and think about electrics at the start particularly.

Also a few self build books - look on amazon.

Yep, mines only a few steps away.

Best advice, Spend your limit on the best base vehicle you can afford. Dont want to spend loadsa time fitting out and then find you need to do a load of welding or fitting a new engine!

Spend the time thinking it out, look at areas you may want to upgrade in the future and install services to cope with the upgrades.

Catch me at the beach and i'll give you as much advice as I can. Check out sbmcc as Tim sugests, there is loadsa good advice on that site, and a forum to ask questions.

Ring CAK tanks on0870 757 2324 for a component catalogue, they stock most items you'll need. also, Rainbow conversions, check out the website, there's loads if you look hard enough.

If you want to fit out on a shoe string, you'll find most items on ebay or at one of the many caravan breakers.

Hope this is of some help. Good luck

The king of conversions - and I speak as someone from the industry - is a guy called John WICKERSHAM. Google his book and I think you'll find that really helpful.

There's more to life than KITESURFING!

Let me know when you find it.
