Hmmm... I don't know what the situation is there yet, guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what the recommendations about
travelling there are.
I did read this from someone there:
quote:
"I just had a call from my father, who works in Egypt and is in Dahab at the moment. He is in the office of his camp and he said he is
all right, but it's a mess, mobiles aren't working and everything is closed by the police."
Glad I'm not there now (for Anna's sake).

all is not lost AL!
take a page out of the bean crunchers in the airline industry:
statisticly, after an air crash is the safest time to fly . the chances of it happening again are far less. ( exception is unless you
were flying DC10's in the late 70's)
so on a possitive note it should be fine now.
not too much comfort in that i suppose but statisticly correct.
SO GO AND HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY, but dont get tooooooo brown ppppppppppppplease.

British embassy in Cairo has not posted any specific advice - other than 'be careful' - i.e. no advice not to travel etc

If I had a trip booked I'd still go unless the foreign office warned not too. I can't see them doing that as its an isolated inncedent
( I must learn to spell)
Ive been to egypt 5 times, Moon beach, El Tur and Dahabx 3 and always felt safe and found the egyptions very friendly.

What to do
Denise and I are booked to go in November with the Brogborough club. Every year about 40 or 50 go. Dahab does feel safe, but you do
notice armed gaurds everywhere around the hotel complexes and even the beach at night.
By the way the bomb was NOT in Dahab but Mazbat, the beach front shopping and boozing arcade 2 miles up the coast. Jim and his wife are
out there at the moment, and it is OK, but Mazbat is a "mess". SO don't go up there.
The Foreign Office have not warned people not to travel, but clearly they felt it appropriat to put out a statement:

But one thing I notice about windsurfers in general - and it's the "it wont happen to me attitude". (I wonder where that comes from?)
The vote at Brog is almost unanimous" aint no Al Qaedas gonna stop my windsurfing!". Which is admirable, but perhaps naive....?
I haven't decided yet....
Good luck Al.

I've been 4 times, and everyone is really friendly, but they are all working in the tourist industry, the trouble seems to be from
Bedouin dissidents who are anti-Egyptian. The hotels are well protected, which is probably why they have attacked Mazbat (a soft
target).
It fells a little personal when you recognise the pictures on the telly.
Al - enjoy your holiday. It's easy for me to say.

Well, it looks as though we are still going to Dahab at the moment... Its a shame that the week leading up to or holiday has been spent
checking the foreign office website and news channels rather than looking at the windstats and getting excited, but these things
happen.
