skimboarding

Hi, has anyone tried skimboarding here and can anyone tell me if its hard to pick up or not?

Any extra info and tips on what to do to start off skimboarding, where to do it, what skimboard to buy etc. would be really great!

I might just get and atuna skimboard for around £30, incase i don't like the sport...i'd like to take this sport up because i don't live to near the sea, so if its too flat when i get there to bodyboard, i can skimboard.

Plus, can anyone tell me if this atuna board has riding wave ability or is it just skimming? See link below to view board.

its the blue one on the far left "skimboard atunas":

http://www.littlepinkshop.com/lps/erol.html

just click on skimboards on the left hand column of that link...cheers for any help.

That's a pretty good link you got there mNeil, but i've decided to forget skimboarding and take up mountain boarding instead
Skimboarding looks to dangerous.

Mountain Boarding!!! Now your talking!!!

I've tried my hand at that a couple of times, it went something like this:
"hey this is good i'm going really fast!!"
"bugger....how do I stop.....NO BREAKS!!!"
"AAAAAAArrgh...crunch!"

ooooh the pain! I'm really really bad at it!

One of my mates (actually living with him for a couple of months) is a sponsered rider for team Exit. Watched him compete in races and those guys are sick!! ecspecially the free style event... it cannt be normal to do back flips on one of those things!

Anyway I know a bit of stuff about these contraptions from endless lectures off my mate... but if you want any advice and I don't know the answer, i'm sure he will!

lol, thanks for the reply Thodd sounds good. I was thinking of buying an Exit mountainboard, could you ask your friend if i should by an "Exit Phantom", or go for the "Ride the Hill Tsunami" considering price, and i'm a beginner just starting out. Plus the "Ride the Hill Tsunami" has a toolkit and manual. Here is the website i am buying from, please show it to your mate and post back the info to this thread.

That would be great if you could do that for me.
Really appreciate it, cheers.

Airborne.

Well he's about as usefull as a Chocolate Fireguard!!!!!
He says he's never heard of them before. bugger! Think its because he uses the top end boards, and ones that aren't actually in the shops yet!

He does however have an Exit Toaster for sale. Exit keep sending him boards and I think he's got about 5 or 6 of them now. The most recent one being a rather plush looking prototype that they want him to try and break.

Anyway the Exit Toaster...

http://www.atbshop.co.uk/

Click on "boards" on the left and then Exit. It'll take you to some info on the toaster.
The board he's selling has never been ridden, don't actually think that its been out of the box, so its brand new. He says that he wants £200 for it, but as they're £215 new off the internet I reckon I could knock him down if you interested at all. Bit more expensive than what you were looking at I know.

Anyway, let me know if your interested. Probably get him down to the £170-£180 area so you've got an idea. We'd probably drive down and drop it off for you as well so you can "see before you buy"

And again... sorry that theres not much help on the other boards!

Thanks very much for the info Thodd! The Exit toaster looks really good, but i've decided now that i think the "Ride the Hill" Board is for me. Therefore i won't be interested in buying the Exit board off you, but thanks for the offer anyway.

Tell your friend if he's interested that Ride the Hill are some mountainboarding centres where you can ride. They sell all kinds of boards like the great link you gave me, cheers for that! Anyway, they also sell their own custom board for beginner senior riders, below is the link if yourself or him are bothered:

Its the Ride the Hill Tsunami that im getting.

Thanks for the info, you've proven yourself to be man of all knowledge once again!
Cheers,

Airborne.

Hello...

No problem... it is a bit expensive for your first board!

Yeah, i've been to a few Ride the hill centres. The best one that I've seen is at Bolesworth near Chester its on that site that you sent me the link for.

http://www.ridethehill.com/Centres/bmc.html

The place is totally sick! It has a huge bowl cut out of the ground at the bottom of the valley with huge girders for rail slides, massive air jumps and a quarter pipe right at the bottom! You should see the pro's nail it during the freestyle section of comps its awesome!

The track itself is pretty scary going, but like all the centres its got a practice hill.

Theres also a place in Hertfordshire called "Court Farm" and a place about 30 mins from Croyde in Bideford called "Big Sheep".AND..... theres a place called "Out to Grass" http://www.outtograss.com/ which is near Worcester. All of these places are well sound places to ride. It is the end of the season now tho, and I think that most centres are shutting this weekend if they haven't already done so!

Oh yeah.... Also my mate knows the guys that do a magazine called "Scuz"..

http://www.scuz.info/Default.aspx?tabid=33

Theres a forum on the site so if you want to ask them technical questions then these are your boys! They ride alot of places that aren't on the internet.. little secret spots all over the country so if you find yourself getting involved in it all then you know who to ask!

Right.... I think that, thats enough information churned out of my head for the day!! Should keep you going for a bit!!!

Thanks for all the info you've given me Thodd that's really great! I've joined the forum on the link you gave me, looked at the ride the hill centre, i agree it looks really sick! I get a free lesson with my board at any of the centres so i'll look forward to that! In fact all the links are great! I especially like the sound of the one in devon, i always go to ruda park in croyde and they always have a mountainboarding course which should be good.

Cheers!

Airborne.

I have a feeling he'll open it up privatley over winter if you can get a large enough number of people going. Should be able to get more information if anyone wants it?
