Starting out
Hi Guys,
can anyone advise me as to the best technique to entering the surf. ie do most
riders walk out to waist height then put
their fins on and then start paddling. Or
just start paddling as soon as your in enough depth ie knee height. Or do
riders walk out with their fins on (this method seems difficult).
Thanks
J

Hi jasie,
Everyone has they're own way of getting out, personally I put my fins on before I get in the sea and then walk backwards into the surf.
You'll find walking backwards with your fins on a piece of cake as opposed to trying to walk forwards and you'll usually see someone
else going through the same ritual .
I'll start paddling as soon as I see a gap in the breaking waves, usually around waist height.
I have a friend who puts his fins on when hes in the middle on the surf on his way out......(it seems to work for him!)

Yeah! Thats how i do it, walk backwards...im sure i've posted how to do it somewhere on this forum
I wrote something like what Thodd said, plus you sorta moonwalk backwards, almost dragging your feet on the sand. This creates less
drag. It's also best if you place your board facing you as you walk backwards, place the tail near or even very slightly in the water,
and slaightly bend your arms and knees. It may look like your constipated (spelling?) but its better than falling backwards or tripping
up! This technique keeps you balanced and steady when a broken wave may hit you on the back of your legs.
Hope this has helped.
