Another F***ing Force 3

For the first time in ages I sat in the office with a decent breeze outside. Checked all the websites to see if it was worth the 35 mile trip to Weymouth after work and, due to desperation for a sail, I ignored the forecasts to drop and hung on to the tenuous hope that it would be ok

Once again it was a lot of wasted petrol for nothing, when is this b*stard high pressure going to slip over the Continent and leave the UK at the mercy of the Atlantic lows

October????!!!

You don't want to hear this, but its been blowing a hooie here for the last few days. It did drop of briefly for a couple of hours yesterday evening, but didn't drop below Force 4.... Theres nothing worse though than sitting at work watching the wind all day long, only for it to drop off as soon as you have chance to get out.

Hang in there!

As usual, the forecast has changed already... They are now saying that Weds will be the windier... Could be OK for you Hans if it stays like that, but its still too far away to tell.

Sunday (tomorrow) doesn't look too promising at the moment, maybe enough for a kitesurf session though.

Went to the Reactive Watersports demo day at Roadford Lake, loads of gear pity about the wind. Yet another weekend with no sign of a decent sail and to make matters worse I've seen the forecast for wednesday. It just so happens to coincide with me being out of the country for one day

You're nor having a good time are you Iain!! I was just looking through the diary entries for this weekend and thinking what a good weekend it had been... Lots of nice summer winds, and then read this and STILL you haven't got out.

Next weekend is looking good at the moment... But that could all change of course.

allonby is looking to be about 20mph cross shore so I am thinking of heading up there this weekend but the alternative is surfing in south wales. Maybe I should just bring all my gear down to S wales? Whats the wind forecast looking like around porthcawl or out onto the gower?

Zebedee... I just made that suggestions in reply to your other post.

At the moment (but its still a long way off), wind for S. Wales is looking good (S-SE Force 6) on Saturday and OK on Sunday (SW Force 4).

I think I will base myself on the Gower for the weekend - rhossili bay presumably has similar conditions to Oxwich (as long as there isn't 4' surf to get out through - in which case I'll go surfing instead!)

Rhossili Bay and Oxwich are two completely different beasts...

Rhossili bay bears the brunt of any SW storms and picks up loads of swell.. You'll actually sail from Llangenith as access at Rhossili is difficult. There is quite likely to be some surf there on Saturday, and if the winds are SE are predicted, then you should get some good cross-off wave-sailing in, although SE's are pretty gusty there and you'll need a decent wind strength for it to be any good.... the surf could be good though/

Oxwich on the other hand needs a huge swell for it to get any waves as it is well protected from SW winds. You will get some little wind blown waves in a SE with some good bump and jump conditions, but its usually a flat water blasting location.

Check the beachguides for more details on these (and other) Gower beaches.
