Windy at Borth

Well, we've had some wind here again.

Sunday evening was just lovely, glorious evening sunshine and nice steady westerly winds...Only me out. Yesterday was OK Steve, Stevebus and myself out sailing in squally showers and grey overcast conditions with a gusty southerly wind which was pretty strong at times.

Today is looking good as its a solid 20 knots SW out there at the mo.... Time to wake Steve up and get ouy before it drops off I think.

Not too bad for July really, 14 windsurf sessions (and hopefully another one today) and 3 kiting sessions so far for me...Especially as my biggest board is 99 ltrs and my biggest sail 6.3m, so I wait until its 15 knots before going out.

Well, the wind dropped off and I missed a sail this morning. BBC were forecasting 25 mph SW all day, Windguru were saying 10 knots Southerly increasing 16 knots at about 6pm....

Windguru were spot on, the BBC way off!!!... Steve waited around in the rain getting drenched several times until about 5pm then went home. I sat around in the caravan most of the day watching the builders working on our house, and finally got an evening sail in... 18-20 knots and the sun even came out!!!

Winguru are forecasting some decent NW's for tomorrow morning, but I shall have to work, and some even better SW's for Thursday... Again I shall have to work most of the day, so may miss out.

Full details in the diairies as usual.

It has been a windy July. especially the last 2 weeks, today is the 1st time my knee feels normal after injuring it, so a sail the weekend could be on,i know the wind dosn't revolve around me BUT i got a feeling it will disapear friday for a week or 2 just to piss me off some more.I cant belive theres no diary entries for WSM for the last 2 weeks cus its been 12knts plus every day for 2 weeks(Was 35 knts 1 day),if wasnt for my knee i would have sailed at least 6 times!!

Well Spencer, looking at the forecast you could be right. Theres likely to be win for a bit today, then again tomorrow, but it will drop off and the weather 'improve' on Friday and into the weekend... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I'm sure some of the other WSM guys must have been out lately, most of them probably don't know about the diaries here yet though... Mind you, if you'd logged in here every day and found a whole list of entries from WSM I'm sure you would have been even more pissed off about not being able to get out on the water because of your knee.

Not to worry, autumn isn't too far off now!!

All very true, with Autumn only 8 weeks away. One of the good things about WSM is the sea Breeze effect there,so summer sailing is generally good there.

Well, it wasn't great this afternoon, but I did get an hours blasting in on my big board and 6.3m, so it wasn't a complete waste of time!!

Steve... you should have stayed another night.

Spencer... I've moved the stuff about Vans here: http://www.forces-of-nature.co.uk/forum/viewthread.php?tid=719

Back to it being windy at Borth.... It looks as though the early morning hot weather Easterly is working well in the estuary. 17 knots at the moment with glorious sunshine. Unfortunately there isn't enough water, unless I walk all the way to the main channel, which is just a little too far for a quick before work session. It should be even better in thee tomorrow morning.

yeh looks like we've had sea breezes here in cornwall this afternoon, it was apprently up to 30mph on the Lizard, I just didn't notice till 6.30pm, mind you the roads are chaotic here this week, I think the whole country has come to visit, this morning's travel news was something like:

A30 Gossmoor, solid traffic, traffic into St. Ives is solid, newquay centre is gridlocked, with traffic backing up to the A30, truro, penzance and St. Austell are all much busier than normal. Road to Falmouth blocked due to accident will not be open for at least 2 hours !

I'm going to stay in the garden tomorrow !

Unfortunately I shall be working all day tomorrow (8am until 8pm) so won't be able to go out and play in the estuary. If high tide was foirst thing in the morning then I would have caught the early morning katabatic wind before work, but high tide is at around 2pm so theres no chance of that.

Besides, its pretty cloudy and grey here at the moment, so the mad early morning easterlies won't kick in unless it clears up overnight.

We didn't get any seabreeze here today. I've just been out on my surf-ski and it was dead still. The early morning winds peaked at around 20 knots, but had stopped completely by about 10am.

Woohoo... Its working! Its a good 25 knots out there at the moment. Just a shame theres no water in the estuary or I'd be out there giving those carving 360's a go.

I don't know where that came from, but it was absolutely howling here for most of the day. I got to the estuary around 2pm and was completely and utterly overpowered on my 4/5m for a while.

It was very gusty though, so I'd go from being maxed oout on my 4.5m to sinking!
