Your first board

Well mine was a Bic Calypso 320. Not really mine shared it with my Dad and got it NEW in 1995 when we started learning with a Bic Fun Slalom 4.7 rig, still have the sail.

One of the famous blow moulded boards that took at least two people to carry to the water! No it wasn't that bad really. Remember it blew off the roofrack one day before I'd tied it down, not a mark on it amazing!

So what was yours....

You'll never guess

It was more my parents than mine but the first board, and the board I leaned to sail on was a Starsurf (a well known brand at the time.......not) 420. Purchased new (In Bala I think) in 1985!!!!

My own first purchase was a Bic Rock and Roll, 2nd hand don't remember when exactly but sometime in the dark ages!

My first board was a Dufour Wing...quite a beast, with a square tail scooped deck and not particularly good fittings...I remember the pink flimsy fin well!

I had it from 1983 until about 1986 and here I am messing around on the beach at Poppit Sands, Wales with it.

My First Short Board

I then got my first 'short board' around 1986. It was a really cool Vitamin Sea 292. Pretty good at the time and I was so stoked to be sailing a 'short board'...Mind you I didn't weigh much back then.

This is me with a dodgy wetsuit on at Croyde with the very board.

My first surfboard (Embarrassing photo!)

My first surfboard was this...Not sure who it was made by, but Ocean Pacific were cool at the time so I stuck an OP sticker on it. It was 6'3" I remember that much.

This is me in a very dodgy jacket (it was made by Neil Pryde if that makes it any better) at Croyde around 1986 with the board...And is that a wig!!!

Those are cool pictures, I've dug some out so I'll scan them in tomorrow and put them on the board.... Wish I'd started earlier to have some funny photos with really old kit.

First short board was a Bic Veloce 298 so not old at all really....

Anyone else going to share their embarassing pictures with big hair and fluorescent wetsuits?

80's Style!

Much cooler???.... I was just having a pink day that day thanks very much... The jacket was reversible. Pink one day, cooler orangey yellow the next!!

I had a really nice turquoise Alpha jacket as well (which would still look good now), but an ex-girlf stole it...

Do you remember the Armstrong wetsuits??? the orange and yellow ones with black and white checks along the sides??
