You never forget your first time ....
So when and where was that first tentative tug on the uphaul made ???
Remember the feeling of bare sole on Blow Mould??.

Well for me it was probably 1981 at Yaverland , Sandown , Isle of Wight now home to the Wight Air competition..

early 80s - massive Dufour thing. Used to sail on it with my sisters sitting at either end!

My first ever go was on a Dufour Wing as well... In Bristol Docks back in about 1983... Theres a photo of it
HERE
I kept that board as my only board for a few years too, until I upgraded to a cool and funky Vitamin Sea 292.

Mine was about 1986 in a gravel pit near Cirencester. I too had the delights of an old pair of trainers (which got gravel in them
within minutes) on a lovely water logged Vinta Twist. The sail had a boom which was as long as some masts these days and was I guess
made of dacron with no window and no battens i.e. impossible / very difficult for a 12 year old to uphaul!
I didn't actually have my own kit until about 3/4 years after this when I got a fantastically crap Vinta 320 (pintail, plastic popout).
Quickly replaced with an Alpha 130 which rocked!
