Wind at the weekend???

Well, as usual the early forecasts for the weekend look OK... SW Force 3-4 on Saturday, SW Force 4-5 on Sunday.

Wonder how soon it will be before these forecasts are downgraded to a measly Force 2!!!

Anyone coming to Borth if it stays the same??

Al.

Hi Al,

I will be visiting sunny Borth this weekend (thurs-mon). I spent a week in Borth last year, staying at a friends cottage. It blew all week (June) but I wasn't able to bring my windsurf kit due to a lack of car - I was absolutely gutted.

I'm all car'ed up now so bring it on wind!!!

Typical - it will blow force 1/2 all weekend so I advise anyone planning to visit Borth to think again - I wouldnt mind walking up Cader Idris so at least ive done something if the wind gods aren't around.

Fingers crossed anyway.

Paul

Cool...Sounds good to me.

They've down-graded the forecasts to SW Force 2 on Sat and SE Force 3 on Sun already, so it looks as though Cadair Idris could be on the cards!!!

You;ve chased the wind away already just by SAYING you'd be here!!

Well im leaving for Borth this afternoon and the weather is looking changeable - no one forecast seems to be the same. BBC have competing forecats on the same website.

Im sorry guys if it doesnt blow this w/e but be assured im not a wind jinx (honest guv).

See you on the water, hopefully! (blue VW Polo with Gaastra stickers). Staying in Borth but from the beach guides it looks like I will sail anything from Lifeboat to Golf Course. Also have an old battered BIC Mini Mal which if we get anyswell should be interesting as I havent really surfed.

(Al - thanks for the website, great informative and interesting read)

Lightish winds Saturday, and the direction (in light winds) is not good for the Estuary. If Al lends me his old surf board I might give that a go

The wind looks ok for Sunday, and it's supposed to be Sunny and Dry, (the dry bit doesn't refer to my gybes)

I'll have a look at the Golf Club car park, as an Easterly should make it very flat.

I've been trying to decipher the weather too, but it seems to be completely unpredictable at the moment, with all the charts and forecast pages giving completely different ideas on what will happen this weekend.

Looks as though its a case of just being here if the wind arrives.

If its Easterly Dave, surely the estuary will be the best bet??

Steves coming down for the weekend too, so there should be a few people around.

Al.

That's it Al...get lots of people to Borth for the weekend by convincing them it will be windy when really we need them all to help us move all our furniture from one garage to another and there'll be no wind at all really

Well, the wind certainly arrived. Force 5-6 all day and sunny too.

Everyone was glad they got to the beach early and made the most of the tides and everyone left with a grin on their face...

After Al and Steve had left for a big breakfast I went for the last few runs as the water disappeared with the tide, tempted because the wind had kicked in again.

Shaka (Paul)

Were you in Borth at the weekend? I didn't see you anywhere and we had some light winds on Saturday for kiting, then excellent Force 5-6 winds on Sunday for windsurfing, all topped off by the best summer swell that I've ever seen roll into Cardigan Bay around Midday on Sunday.

I hope you made the most of it.

Al

Had a really good weekend (shame I missed Sunday - see below). Got to Borth on Thursday evening. Friday was a light wind sail in some mush @ mid beach - 5.4 Grind (my biggest sail) and old Mistral Ecstasy (still a nice board even after 10yrs). Non planing out but enjoyed some v.small wavesailing coming in, gybing on the inside - just nice to be out on the water.
No wind Saturday so decided to walk up Cadair Idris which we really enjoyed. In the afternoon we had a potter around in the small swell with the BIC.

Sunday as you say had some great swell coming in and im absolutely gutted I didn't check out elsewhere earlier (didn't get up until about 0930). I saw dead offshore winds and thought not much I could do so decided to go surfing which was brilliant for my standard near the lifeboat/Mid-beach. Wipeout after wipeout - eventually cracked it then wiped-out. Please dont tellme you guys enjoyed force 5 with the waves rolling into the river mouth - just dont tell me!!

From your reports its sounds like in a NE or E to go to the estuary - note for next time. Def coming again.

If that Sunday wind had swung around abit it would have been a classic as the waves looked really nice at Golf Course.

For next year I hope to update my quiver with at least a 6.5m and larger board of around 100lt+ Looked at the skate but want something that would be OK in waves when needed.

Its a shame we weren't able to catch up - def coming again so will keep you guys up to date - unfortunately for me im back to South Coast mush for another year (Hayling, Witterings, Worthing, poole etc).

Im trying to convince my non windsurfing girlfriend that its a good idea to go in the Autumn - ive already convinced her of 2 weeks in Brandon Bay next year for our honeymoon - I did buy the engagment ring - whats her problem about no sun!!!!

Sorry for the essay.

Good surfing and hangloose
Paul
