Brilliant session from 7.15am till 10 in the estuary Friday morning... till the stupid plastic clip on my board leash reel snapped
clean in two after a big wipout. Thanks to whoever retrieved my board
Was fortunate really because I just made it back to work for an 11am meeting, surely would have been late otherwise. Helluva high tide
- Back wheels of the car underwater but jut managed to get it out Hopefully
more of the same tomorrow...

Col's right for once. Thats the reason I don't venture out of the van some weekends - the bloody piece of paper has dropped off the
dash

Gonna rig in the dark and try to catch the speed channel at first light.... Although it is still VERY dark out there!

Just got back from my session in the estuary.
Started in the dark to catch the speed channel and then stopped as the estuary filled with water. Pretty fast out there, but not quite
fast enough.
Top Speed was 36.38 knots.
Diary Entry
here.

I surf, but are the westerlys as sought after too for kite surfers? I imagine for sailors it isn't too important.

Luckily here we can got out windsurfing and kitesurfing in pretty much any direction as we can use the estuary as well as the seafront
- You don't want Westerlys for the surf though, you need the offshore easterlies for that.

estuary sailing
Hi,
What is the estuary like for windsurfing? Is it really shallow? and very tidal? I am an experienced windsurfer but not up too you guys
sailing in a gale!! I buggy most weeks if poss off the golf course....also kayaked a few times down stream to Aberdovey, then across,
very strong currents that day!!
Any advise would be welcomed
thanks

It can be great, but will depend on the tides. Water state can vary from dead flat to choppy, but it's never really rough. Best wind
directions is a NE, but many beginners use the estuary in all directions as it is a little more sheltered than the seafront and offers
flat water sailing conditions.
You do of course need to be a ware of the tides and the currents. ON neaps you can sail throughout the tides, but on Springs there
isn't enough water on this side of the estuary at low tide.
If there's wind from a NE direction then it's likely that there will be someone else out for you to sail with.

Thanks for that, I am an experienced windsurfer, but a little rusty. Used to teach part time..but now falling apart and waiting for a
new knee!! so only comfortable on flat water.
