NEWBIE SEEKS ADVICE ON DAHAB
Hi All
My name is Tony I am 32yrs of age and apparently look like Shayne Ward but a less attractive version I am sure :-)
I have had taster sessions of windsurfing in the past and learnt just enough to discover just how much fun it can be but never did it
regurlarly and only got to RYA lvl 2. Now I have decided to get into the sport propperly. I have just booked a holiday to Dahab through
Neilson over christmas so hopefully I will be competant and raring to go when I return to the UK. I will be staying at the Coralia Club
and am really looking forward to it :-)
Basically I will be looking to buy 2nd hand kit from scratch when I get back and start windsurfing at my nearest lake at Carsington
Reservoir near Ashbourne in Derbyshire. Any advice welcome.
Just thought I'd introduce myself to you all.
Cheers
Tony

Welcome to FON.... You'll love Dahab!
I went out there a few years ago, not with Neilson but still had a good time. The wind wasn't the best whilst I was there but I stilled
managed to get on the water every day. The lagoon will be the ideal place for you to get to grips with the basics of footstraps and
harness technique.
Also, whilst you are out there try to use as many different boards as you can so that you can get a feel for the sort of thing you will
need when you get back to the UK.
Have fun.
Al.

Hi 2tone, if you are 'near' to Carsington then you are probably just down the road from me.
I live 5 miles from Matlock, and Carsington is only 20 mins away.

What's x factor?
I tell you what, I could probably walk past loads of famous people in the steet, and not have a clue who they were.
Windsurfing's cool, but it takes a long time to rip!

Who's Shayne ward? What is X-factor.
Clearly you guys are having so much fun on water
that you don't have time to watch this cr*p :-)
Now its my turn, whats RIP mean?
And where can I purchase a Windsurf Mag and which type would you all recommend. Tried WH Smith with no luck.
Also I have a RYA VHS but only have a DVD player, do they do a DVD version, had no luck on AMAZON.
Hopefully I can start Windsurfing and watch less Telly :-)

Rip... Means 'to Shred'.. Come on dude.. learn the vocab!!
Basically it means to sail to a good standard, especially in wave.
WHSmith should have windsurf magazines... There are two main ones, 'Boards' and 'Windsurf'. Windsurfing ships will also sell them
As far as DVD's go then there are plenty of them available, although not loads via Amazon... If you are going to buy from Amazon then
do so via a link from Forces-of-Nature as it helps support the site and pays for some of the running costs!
I've had a quick look on Amazon and something like
Intuition by Guy Cribb might keep you amused and teach you a few things too. Although it is aimed at
intermediates rather than beginners.

I think as Neil says you should join the kitesurfing crowd and keep away from the pole jockeys, Al doesn't seem to get out unless its
nuclear winds, the only benefit for windsurfers otherwise is the availability of inland lakes to sail rather than having to trek to the
coast like us landlocked kiters.
Let me know if you want to come along for the weekend to see what its all about.

not catching any fish on this topic!!!
each to his own as they say but you might find that as a windsurfer you spend more time on the beach with Steve Bus( also a windsurfer)
waiting for stronger winds watching the kitesurfers who have a far bigger wind range to play in.
have fun either way and come and say ello
neil ( x windsurfer)

Ok I think the least I can do is come and see whats its all about since I have never seen a competant Kite surfer before. So whens the
next trip out?
I guess you had it good this saturday gone as I struggled to ride my motorbike in a straight line :-)
Maybe just maybe I could do both Windsurfing and Kite boarding? Been watching John Palmer on Youtube, he is amazing on a windsurf,
helicopter tacking manoevers are ace. So who should I watch on youetube that is ace at Kiteboarding?
Cheers
