Exit the Ratrace

What a week! With the news that my ex missus is moving away with our daughter it has given me the motivation to sell my house and give up work for a year or 2, or maybe even longer. Looking at doing a full tour of the UK coastline the moving onto Europe. What do you think?

I wouldnt rush to sell your house, I would rent it out.

Had a mate in the same situation as you about 5 years back.
Sold up and travelled for a few years. Kept most in the bank, but spent some.

When he decided he wanted to settle down again found the house prices had moved on far more than the interest he had got from leaving the money in the bank.

Is now just left with renting and not able to buy anything reasonable again.

Oh, but go for it anyway.
I'm still funding mine through Uni so not in a position to be free for 3 or 4 years yet.

Am presuming the person who polled 'grow up' was having a laugh.

Life's too short to not make the most of every opportunity that presents itself, afterall whoever regretted another day at the beach ?

Deffo keep your house, even if prices drop as predicted, rent never goes down.

Personally with winter approaching Id head to the southern hemesphere, Aus is a easy country to travel round, with heaps good kiting, it also acts as a stepping stone to Indo, Fiji and other exotic spots. Youll probably find that once your there itll be cheaper living than staying in the uk as well.

NEWS FLASH

I know what you saying about selling my house and having problems buying later on. At least buying something that is of the same standard. My parents have now offered to buy the house of me, superb. 2 years of solid kitesurfing here I come. Or maybe even longer............. Quality

If you survive until this time next year - let me know - I fancy having a couple of months in Australia - the waves and wind around Perth are supposed to be among the very best in the world!!

Around Perth is wicked I spent 4 months in Margret River a few hours south. Its got some of the most consistent big surf, ( real big 12-25 foot faces is common place, and very solid with it). Wind is pretty much guaranteed by 12 o clock every day as well.

Might do the more exotic locations in year 2. I don't want to be too far away from my little girl. At least staying in the UK/Europe I can come back and see her every month. Looking at booking a holiday to St Lucia for 2 weeks over xmas. Pro Kiter over there has offered to show me round the spots there. I got loads of friends in Oz, so there is a good chance I will get over there some time soon. Bring it on.......
