There are already quite a few 'hurdles ' place, IP checks on registration, dodgy looking email addresses don't get to register, new
members have to fill in a 'Captcha' code so as to prevent spambots from signing up, and they have to enter a functional email address
as their password is then sent to them in an e-mail...
Until they have done all of that they can't login and therefore can't post any spam..... Even if someone does jump through all those
hoops, and posts some spam it doesn't usually last long.... I delete it as soon as I see it and terminate their users account too, so
they have to go to quite a bit of effort for very little gain, which probably explains why we only get a few spam posts.
In comparison, there was a section of the site that didn't have all these hoops to jump through, but I (as administrator) had to
approve any posts before they went live.. In that section I was getting literally 100's of spam posts a day. It wasn't a problem as no
one got to see them (and therefore a waste of time for the spammers), but needless to say I got fed up with it and put all of the above
into place on that section as well.

Didn't realise it was so technical!!
Actually they sometimes show on the front page and then when go into a forum they're not there so you must be on it!
