Sailing in Pea soup!
Went to visit the folks this weekend and sailed at Blithfield Reservoir in Staffs with the intention of teaching my girlfriend. Weather
was good warm and about 10 knots yesterday.... BUT there was a massive blue green algal bloom, so thick by the shore it looked like
mushy peas. Despite this people were still out dinghy sailing so I joined them on a Laser and had a great time. Then rigged a 7.5 and
took my Dads Equipe out which was good railriding upwind and overtaking toppers!
I've seen these blooms before a couple of years ago at Bala but the lake was closed, anyone seen it this year. I know certain types are
toxic so best not fall in or at least keep your mouth closed.
Worst bit is it stained and covered everything took ages to clean up, I thought that was the only advantage to sailing inland;not
having to rinse kit!
