sorry to hear the bad news; i couldnt imagine the disspare if i lost mine as there are only 3 in the worl d . to stop that happening, on strong and cold days i always wear an UNCOOL leash. if its too windy to body drag upwind and you know when that is! a leash can be your very best friend, oh and also your wallets!
there again i have to also wear and UNCOOL helmet, but then i wear one all the time anyway.
i cant remember how many times i have gone out and brought back boards for peeps in strong conditions when they just cannot get back upwind body dragging to their boards.its amazing how fast you get cold and tired in the sea and then that gets dangerous.
not meaning to preach but God did supply us with stuff between our ears, often we just forget to make full use of it!! get aleash and a helmet and dont become a statistic!

I'm afraid I have been converted to using a leash in certain conditions after losing my board, even though I hate them

Neil, I didn't know our boards were the only three like them in the world - now that's impressive - think i'll just go and have a look at mine in the garage, just to make sure it's okay!

well Tim there's yours' and there's mine that are the same; then there's Pauls, who makes them, which is not quiet the same, that has a slight concave on the bottom; so in fact ours are the only ones in the world ;a set of 2!
and mines asleep; i just checked and put on an extra blanket, bless!

it's not the wind that's a problem getting back to your board in strong wind, cause I find thats the time when its the easiest! It's when the currents or rip in movement of water thats the problem!

It was the rip that took it not the wind, as usual. I got in there with the boat, pretty quick and dragged my mate out, but I wasnt risking it for a board. the daft thing was he was wearing a leash, the type with a metal quick release clasp, and it came undone. Personally I recon a good old fashioned surf board leg rope is the strongest and simplest to use, and if your wearing a helmet, theres less worry on recoil.

Personally I always wear a helmet as well, I think Im 1 of 2 kiters from aberdyfi that do wear helmets. Obviously the far more experienced Borth massive all keep theire noggins protected, very sensible!!
