Navigation lights for kites

Is Derick hardcore or what,

Was with Neil last Sat evening in his van , when we saw a light outside. It was Derick , with 2 pond lights attached to a garth helmet, and a battery pack on his back. He was going surfing !

He said it was ok and he could see quite a lot, He told me he was going to use it with his kite when the clocks go back, and was wondering how he could fix something to his kite so he could see it. I thought the luminous float things they use for fishing would work, one taped to a pigtail either-side a red and a green.

Kitesurfing in the dark ?

I think he's mad, but can't wait to see it

I've seen people with the flourescent lights on the tips of their kites... green one side, red the other so that you can even tell which way around your kite is!... Mind you, surfing in the dark is one thing (in smallish surf), and I have windsurfed with it fairly dark, but kitesurfing is another thing... There will be a lot of 'dark space' between you and the kite and you just won't know what is there... I know there won't be anything there other than your lines, but when its dark the mind plays funny tricks on you!!

i like that post dunk, very funny, made laugh, and I could do with a laugh at the mo!

I think we should invest in some football stadium size floodlights and stick em on the beach for when it gets dark. Now that would be fun!!

Quite a few companies make lcd lights to clip on to the tips of your kites, just so you can see where it is. You still need to worry about what your going to hit.!!

Glow sticks are the way forward - cheap as chips so it doesn't matter if u loose 'em, really bright & loads of different cololurs - so u can tell which way round your kite is, and if u use different colours, who else is nearby.

Check 'em out - anythingglows.co.uk - I got quite a few last winter and they are really bright and will last all night if required.
