Which board?
HI
Ive been windsurfing for abbout 3 years and am at level 3-4. Ive jus been windsurfing in spain and have decided to buy my own kit
rather than having to rent it every week. When I was there I used a Fanatic ERAY 145 and im looking for a similar kind of board second
hand. Could anyone reccomend some similar kinds of boards or where to look for them secondhand?
Cheers

Most manufacturers priduce a similar large allround freeride board like the Fanatic you mention. It may not necessarily be the best
board for you though. The best board will depend not just on your ability and where you normally sail, but also (and most importantly)
your weight and your aspirations as a windsurfer... Do you want a board that you will find really easy straight away but limiting as
you imprve and start sailing in stronger winds, or are you looking to improve your skills fairly quickly. if the latter you'll probably
be better off on something a little smaller, which you'll find a little more challenging to start with, but will be much more
comfortale in stronger winds.
Places to buy second hand... take a look through the classifieds on this site, and do a search in Google for 2nd hand windsurf kit in
the UK, theres loads out there. Feel free to ask back here when you have found a few boards within your price range and we'll give you
the low-down on them.

In that case, a 130 ltr board will be big enough and have plenty of volume for you to be able to uphaul it and would therefore be Ok as
your biggest board. I don't know if you can waterstart or not yet, but once you can then you will be wanting a smaller board as
well.
I'm not very familiar with the relative pros and cons of specific boards in this sort of size as my biggest board is only 90 ltrs, but
someone else might be able to tell you what they think of the Fanatic E-Ray... I think it is meant to be quite fast and is basically
the same as the Sting Ray TT and X Ray, but in a more durable construction.
As I said, there are loads of other boards in this sort of size range that you could consider... Bic Techno, Starboard Carve, F2
Powerglide, Mistral Explosion to name a few.

Sorry, have to do a blatent plug here. I have a Bic Techno E large (135L) for sale in the classifieds on this site and on the boards
one. Have a look in the diaries section to see what i think about it. I'm only selling it because of my incurable desire for new
toys.....

Ok thanks for the advice.
I found an ex demo Eray for around 300, which is really the most I can afford at the moment (I've still got to get a sail or two, mast
etc), so sorry wes. Also I would rather stick to the makes I have tried, and know I like. I tried a F2 powerglide but didn't really get
on with it that well. I don't get a chance to to try other boards out because the centre I go to only stocks the various Hifly
boards.
Anyways thanks a lot...very helpful advice
Cheers

Yep... the demo weekend is the 21st and 22nd of June and there should be loads of kit there for him to try out. As you say it all comes
down to personal preference and the type of sailing / sailor so the best way to find out what you like is turn up at a demo day with
your wettie and harness and try as uch kit as possible all free of charge!
I'll be there and trying stuff if there is wind. I don't intend to buy anything but it saves me rigging up!!
