ClimachX Trail

Distance: 15km

The ClimachX Trail is situated in the Dyfi Forest just North of Machynlleth. It isn't part of a typical trail centre but does include 9km of purpose built single track and is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

There is a small car park at the trail head which can be a little difficult to find if you don't know where you are going. Heading north from Machynlleth turn right off the A487 at Esgairgeiliog, across the bridge and bear right then take the next left and follow the signs from there. (Check the attached Google Earth file if you are unsure). From the car park there is a climb up forest roads before you head onto a nice little singletrack section to warm you up. From here the trail has a familiar flavour of singletrack sections with the usual small jumps and rocky sections followed by short climbs on forest road.

The final descent is what Climachx is all about. Supposedly the longest descent in Wales with plenty of tricky rocky sections, drops and big berms. The rest of the route is graded as red, but the final descent is graded as Black. It will certainly leave a smile on your face and is a fitting climax to the Climachx trail.

There is plenty of other riding to be had in the Dyfi Forest but it isn't waymarked. There is even a North Shore section hidden in the woods that joins onto the final descent and the forest is home to the annual Dyfi Enduro event.
