I'm still trying to understand Ifor and when he is likely to blow. What wind directions get him going? Does it have to be warm and sunny or does he keep going all year? How long does he keep going in the day? How close does it need to be to high tide to sail on the estuary at Ynyslas? He seems to be blowing now though the tide is getting low and I've work to do.

P.S. to Al, sorry to hear about your crash - I hope you are recovering well.

ivor is indeed a fickle beast, he's best in the spring and late summer when a NE is blowing, but he can come down the estuary at any time of the year. if it's NE and though the wind will accelerate down the valley at any time of year.

As far as the tides got hen it all depends on how big the tides are as on Neaps you can pretty much sail in the channel at any state of the tide. A couple of hours either side of high are best though if you want to be sure of having enough water.

Hopefully Ifor will oblige tomorrow with NE wind. If so I'll aim to get there for 11 or 12. It's a shame I missed Wednesday but there wasn't quite enough time after I finished work

Hey Alistar,

I spoke briefly with you yesterday (tall guy, blue wet-suit). Yesterday the wind picked up again in the afternoon, at about 2.45. It was still up and down but good enough to manage a good hour and half on the water (with my 9 kite). hopefully to get some more westerly wind next so we can play in safer conditions

Today looks windier and westerly - but a bit too onshore for my liking though you may be OK on a kite.

I need to work out where to go in a westerly as we seem to get them quite often.

Off the seafront at Ynyslas is excellent in a Westerly.... Plenty of little ramps close int o shore and some nice gaps between the waves for blasting in... I know it's dead onshore but its great fun.

Maybe it was just too light when I was at Ynyslas and it was mainly Westerly. I'll give it another go when there is more wind promised.

Hopefully before too long I'll get better at knowing what works well at Ynyslas. I seem to have picked the wrong times recently. Is it best avoided close to high tide? One time I was there with an hour or so to go and it had got to the bottom of the pebble bank.

This weekend looks promising at the moment so hopefully it will deliver and I'll be there at the right time!

Yep, I tend to avoid high tides off the seafront at Ynyslas, especially on Spring tides.

With high tide at 1pm on Saturday I'm hoping 2pm onwards may be OK as the wind looks better in the afternoon.
