Humidity Sensor Failed Again
justal - 6-12-2007 at 08:44

It looks as though there is a problem with the humidity sensor on the weather station again so humidity readings will be inaccurate for a while. As soon as there is a break in the weater I shall climb the pole and investigate the problem, but it looks as though it is exactly the same issue as happened before, so I shall have to get a new part and replace it.

At least it isn't anemometer.

sure its not gases leaking from the porta loo?

Well, I've got a new Temp / humidity Sensor and have been up the telegraph pole to install it this morning, but all is not well!

For some reason it still isn't getting a humidity reading it thinks it is about 60¬?C and the wind speed has stopped reading... Don't know what has gone wrong, especially with wind speed as that hasn't been touched. I'll have to get onto tech support tomorrow.

I'll be forwarding my yearly payment to you soon. That should help.

Cheers.... Not sure what has gone wrong... I've replaced all of the batteries, checked the wiring, checked and double checked all connections but it all seems to be a bit broken at the moment.

Before changing the humidity sensor, the only thing that wasn't working was the humidity reading. After changing it we lost wind speed (but not direction), temperature and humidity.

OK.... It looks as though the humidity sensor they sent was the wrong one (digital rather than analogue)... so that will have to be exchanged.... I'm not sure why the wind speed has stopped reading though, unless plugging the wrong sensor into the sim board has somehow fried some of the circuitry... I may end up needing a completely new circuit board for the Sensor Suite.

I've taken the weather station offline totally for now whilst I work on it so as not to ruin any of the weather extreme / average data with the ridiculous temp reading we are getting at the mo.... The temperature is reading at 73.3¬?C which i think is just a little off!.

I'll try to get the necessary spares ASAP and get it fixed and back up and running, but it will no doubt be a few days at the very least, maybe a bit more at this time of year.

Looks as though the whole Sensor SIM board needs to be sent off for repair. I'll get that done today, but it probably won't get there until Weds / Thurs at the earliest, so I am unlikely to get the repaired unit back before the New year.

It's taken a while but I now have a brand new SIM board (the guts of the main sensor suite for the weather station) and a brand new temperature and humidity sensor.. All I need now is a dry day so that I can go up the telegraph pole and install the components and wire them up... Monday looks like the first opportunity for that.

Then, fingers crossed it will all be working again, although I may have a bit of a nightmare sorting through some of the data manually once it all comes back online to remove any weird readings produced by the hardware failure.

Thanks for your patience.

Is it a Jastail thing

justal - 21-1-2008 at 11:29

It is still pretty damp out there which probably won't do the electronics much good, so I might have to wait until tomorrow, unless it brightens up later.

@cosmo .. I'm not sure what you mean?

Phew.... I've just spent the last couple of hours up the telegraph pole installing a new SIM board and temp/humidity sensor. It took a while to get the new SIM board talking to the console and data logger but it now seems to be working.

I've put the weather station back online and will be monitoring it closely over the next few hours / days. Let me know if you notice any odd data or any other problems.

This Problem create again and again something should be done for getting rid of this problem I have experienced that, As soon as there is a break in the weater I shall climb the pole and investigate the problem.
