This weeks wind?? 17-22 Sept.
justal - 17-9-2003 at 06:12

Just been looking through the charts and forecasts as normal and it looks as though there might be some wind on the way.

Theres a possibility of it getting to Force 5 today (wednesday), but it should get to at least Force 4 SW, so I should be able to go kiting if not windsurfing.

Then it looks as though it will come back for the weekend. At the moment its looking as though it should be Easterly on Saturday Force 4 (probably Force 5 in that case in the estuary). High tide is at around 3pm as well, so that could make for a good all afternoon session in the estuary here. Although it is supposed to veer SE later in the day which isn't so good.

Its then going to continue veering southerly through to SW Force 5 on Sunday before easing Westerly on Monday.

Of course, as usual, by tomorrow those Force 5's will become Force 4's, and by the time the weekend actually gets here we'll be hanging around on the beach with no wind at all as always!!!

Has anyone got anything planned for the weekend?

Al.

Well if the wind blows........

Little SeanBo gets his first chance to watch dad making a fool of himslef on a windsurf board. Mum still has to wait until she can get back on the water so I still have a last few chances to get the pick of our kit

Let us pray..........

Hoping to head down to Poole where it looks like a 3-4ish is brewing. The forecast has improved since yesterday so let's hope it keeps going that way.

fingers, legs, knees and toes all crossed...

Should be coming over for the weekend to go kite surfing. Being looking forward to this for a while !!

Glad I didn't come down last Sunday as there was apparently no wind (from reading the diaries) - fingers crossed for this weekend

Staying in Tywyn - but might be able to wizz across the estuary from Aberdyfi to Ynyslas to see you guys

macdonaldal - 17-9-2003 at 13:21

By the way what forcasts do you look at for the wind ?

Theyr.net or windguru.cz ? or other ?

mNeil - 17-9-2003 at 13:23

yep i suppose us from birmingham will make our usual appearance espec as it will be an east wind, look out for those mad eels everywhere!!!! might even get out the frenzys.

justal - 17-9-2003 at 17:16

Macdonaldal....
We'll be in the estuary if its easterly so you should be able to pop across from Aberdovey. As far as weather forecasts go, I look at a whole load, theyr, windguru, met office inshore forecasts and shipping forecasts, the isobar charts from Bracknell, Weather online, BBC and a few others, then just add a little bit of local knowledge to it and hope for the best!!!

The wind forecast for this afternoon materialised and I had a excellent kite-surf session in the sunshine on a quiet beach. Just perfectly powered up, occasionally a little overpowered and sliding of downwind, but most of the time just perfect. I started off by heading about half a mile upwind then had a load of mad downwind runs with loads of jumps.... Cool!!!... More for the weekend please.

Sounds like you had a great sess !! Makes me even more envious (in green)
of you living by the coast while I live so far in-land that it's just not funny any more - oh well

So the jumping is going well - how much height are you getting ? Any grabs ?
Are you loading the lines up and then popping of the water or sending the kite back and doing a pendulum jump ?

Oh and have you managed to do any caving gybes ?? I still find that when I try to, the lines become slack and the kite ends up at the edge of the wind window - so I drop back into the water - practise makes perfect I suppose

What colour is your kite ? So I can spot where you are - one of the great things about kitesurfers - you can spot your friends miles away

laters

Alex
(toes crossed for wind - wonder if theres a wind dance we can do )

Seanbo and Mark,

I will probably go to Poole if it is at all windy, but easterlies are a bit crappy there so might head to Weymouth. Wave to the bloke on the bight orange Techno (not enough wind for the Max2Air) as you cruise past, I'll be the one floundeing under his sail! Oh, and the van will be there if you fancy a cuppa.....

Wes

PS Al, I am soooooooo envious of people who live near the coast and can actually get on the water on good days!

AndyW - 18-9-2003 at 11:22

Al,

I guess you mean September.

I might make an appearance, I'll have to check what I'm doin for the weekend.

But I do love those easterly days in that estuary...

One day I'm gonna crack the carve gybe there!

Here's to the forecast holding.

justal - 18-9-2003 at 18:09

Oh yeh.... September!!!

Macdonaldal (Alex)... As far as I know I'm taking the kite back and doing a pendulum jump most of the time, but occasionally I get it so that i load the line up and just pop up into the air pretty much vertically.... No grabs or anything yet though, i think I'll wait untuil I've got the landings sorted first, and then try it one day when I'm out on flat water. Oh, and no carving gybes either. It took me long ehough to learn how to carve gybe whilst windsurfing, and as I have a twin tip board I'm kind of still enjopying the fact that I don't HAVE to carve gybe whilst kitesurfing!!!. I'm sure I'll give it a go one day though.

I have a 11m yellow (just like this site!) Wipika Free Air if you are around at the weekend. If its anything between 12 and 18 knots I'll be kitesurfing, 18 knots and above and I'll be windsurfing.

You probably don't want to hear this, but I had another good session this evening. Nice 15-16 knot cross-shore winds and relatively flat seas. I'm getting into this kite-surfing malarky now!

macdonaldal - 19-9-2003 at 07:47

(friendly) grrr - and it now looks like the wind is going to drop for this weekend :< Just my luck

justal - 21-9-2003 at 07:06

There was no wind at all yesterday and it was pretty miserable and grey all day long too... looking much better here at the moment though with a n 18 knot Easterly at the moment, although it is pretty gusty.

Theres even some sunshine.

hopefully see some of you on the beach later.

SeanBo - 21-9-2003 at 08:15

0.0mph for the last hour and a half In Poole and Weymouth. 8MPH is the highest forecast I can find. Looks like a gardening day

paul - 21-9-2003 at 21:07

<grin> force 5 last thing sunday afternoon here in cornwall and I got out, wind and sunshine woo hoo

SeanBo - 21-9-2003 at 21:27

Things are getting serious now. Redundancy looming and a small company so little room to hide, but tomorrow looks like the day...I may well be rigged and ready to go at 5pm....wish me luck

justal - 22-9-2003 at 06:04

It was good here too all Sunday afternnon. Just enough for windsurfing, but my big board is still being repaired, so I went kitesurfing instead... Perfectly powered up, some nice big jumps and grogeous summer weather.

Its looking good out there at the moment too. 20-25 knots SW and pouring with rain. I might leave it until this afternoon though when the wind should swing NW and be Force 5-6.

I hope you all had a good weekend too.

Sean... That doesn't sound like good timing for redundacy for you?? I could end up being a blessing in disguise though, so don't start panicking yet

Al.
