Indoor Windsurfing at London Boat Show
Robbie - 1-8-2003 at 05:59

Looks like they are going to have the full indoor windsurf show at next years London Boat Show.

They are gonna have a 2100 sq m pool, with the full set of fans and winds up to 30 knots. There should be some world class sailors strutting their stuff on it, and then the pool will be able to stage demo days etc as well during the show.

8-18th Jan 2004. Should be a date for your diary. From the footage I've seen of indoor windsurfing elsewhere, then it certinaly looks like a show not to be missed.

Great news, I heard the rumour last year, but forgot to keep an eye on it. Any idea who will be there?

I went to Bercy about 10 years ago for the indoor windsurfing (the mrs. thought it was a romantic trip to Paris), anyway it was a great show, a cross between a rock concert and a sports event, the french crowd made so much noise when robby naish appeared it was mad.

hope they make a good job of staging the show.

Nik Baker will be there (but that should go without saying), Robbie Swift and John Skye will be giving it a go too... Theres gonna be a freestyle competiton and a slalom competition. Thje first time an indoor freestyle competition has been staged.

Theres also talk of Matt Prithcard and Ricardo Campello being there... No sign of Robby yet though which is a shame.

Nearer the time we will have to arange a get together sure there must be a bar for a few beers

SeanBo - 1-8-2003 at 21:37

Hey Bad thats a great idea. Another FON get together. Jane and I will try to make sure we are there (new baby permitting)

I am really looking forward to seeing an indoor comp, but am more interested in the slalom stuff.

<IMPENDING OPINION WARNING> While I am happy that Freestyle has its place in the world (and I have tried some), consistant winds and 'close combat' in an indoor environment has to lead us towards gladiator style racing.....doesn't it????? Lets get that adreanline pumping!!!!!

PS just ordered another copy of World windsurfing un-cut PWA world tour highlights (1998?) from Amazon for less than £7! excellent footage of the indoor stuff with Ant winning!

Hope the 'show' is as good! and that my new video player does not chew this one up!

Sean.... we're also planning a trip to Borth again for Oct 4-5th, I haven't mentioned it properly yet as I keep forgetting to ask Anna if that weekend is OK. But, if its not too son after the 'big arrival', we'll hope to see you here.

Hey, I hope to be around then, so I could actually make it!

Are you sure you're not just keeping this secret so I don't come & jinx the wind?

And how many more bl**dy postings before my rating changes???

SeanBo - 2-8-2003 at 13:13

Hi Al

Probably a bit far to drive for a weekend away when we will only just be beginning to work out the instruction manual for the new arrival, however we will keep it in mind as I do have some holiday left and we may be able to sort something out once we are more 'in the know'

Just realised it is also my birthday weekend so I would be up for some light refreshement in the evenings as well!

Ajdesq - about 24 more posts to go....give the word games a go, they certainly helped my posting rate! Either that ot try and persuade Al that Diary entries count as well

justal - 2-8-2003 at 16:51

Actually ajdesq only has one more post to make.... The Ranks are listed here

It would be cool if you could make it that weekend, especially if its your birthday as well... Of course, if ajdesq is coming then we can't promise you wind!!!

I might take a couple of days off around then as well, just in case anyone feels like staying a little longer than a weekend.

I'll post a 'proper' thread about the F-O-N 'away-day' soon.

Al.

Yes, I'm back from Greece on 18th Sept or so, doing some courses in Coverack from about 14th Oct, so was planning on coming to Borth around that time for a week or 2 anyway. I'll apologise already about the wind, although the Gorge has come up with the goods - for the first time in 9 months I've had SEVEN days on the trot of windsurfing - woo-hoo!

ajdesq - 2-8-2003 at 18:53

And I'm now a pro! Bigger woo-hoo! Must be the only pro who still can't carve gybe though...

SeanBo - 6-8-2003 at 07:40

No you are not alone on that one!
