Slick Zips
justal - 2-3-2003 at 22:01

Anyone know what the recommended lubricant for dry zips is??? I can just about do mine up on my own at the mo, and I want to keep it functioning smoothly.

I think when I used to dive that people used beeswax on their drysuit zips...Is that right??

Use that Beeswax!

I cover my zip in the stuff after every session. It is meant to be really expensive to replace the zip if it breaks.

Cool...Thought that was what I should use. Any suggestions where to get it from?

The Honey Shop sells 1oz sticks of beeswax for 75p (£1.50 inc p&p).

I'm sure Al will tell you if it works when it arrives (apparently he couldn't manage to order it himself so I found time out of my busy scedule to do it for him! )

Boardridersguide have something called MaxWax for £3 plus p&p. Don't know what it's like though. Has anyone tried it or got any other suggestions?

At the moment I'm waiting for the emergency phone call from the beach to say that Al's stuck in his extra toasty wetsuit and needs rescuing! so we'll have to find something good.

Try Silicone based lubricant. You can buy it in a can from car accesory stores and it works a treat. It is a rubber lubricant used help electric windows slide up and down there rubber seals more easily and therefore will not damage your suit.
