Time to Borth
SinistaPenguin - 2-10-2003 at 12:29

Hi

Can anyone give me a realistic idea of how long it will take me to get to Borth from Leamington Spa.

The AA Route planner suggests 3 hrs 15 mins. Is this true?

I was hoping it would be nearer 2 & 3/4 hours.

Someone must have gone from Brum to Borth or vice versa.

Also, should I go M6 to Telford > Shrewsbury then across or A46 to Stratford, then Leominster then up?

Any help greatly appreciated.

It took me about 5.5 hours from Poole last time and it takes me just over two hours to get to the outskirts of Brum.

The last hour of the journey are on slow, but 'charming' roads so there is no real way to speed the journey up plan on 3 hours minimum.

Hi Sinista,

That's the way I was thinking of going and I was only expecting the journey to take about that long to, (2&1/2-2&3/4 hours). I guess we'll find out Saturday morning.

I've got quite a nice flat cap I'm very fond of
(my missus and pals say i look like a !#@! though!

I never like to put a time on journeys cos if you plan to be there by a certain time you will always hit traffic!
I will get there when i get there

Poole to Borth via Birminghan??? Is that really the best way to go??.. I guess it is or else you wouldn't have done it.

I drove from Borth to Bristol and back yesterday, taking different routes in each direction to avoid the bridge toll, and as always it took exactly 3 hours each way in my fully loaded transit. As SeanBo says, once you get into Wales the roads aren't exactly fast.

OK so I refer to the motorway network round birmingham as birmingham (and the M25 as London even though it can take an hour to get in from the M25),

But the principle is close for time calculations. I did cut some corners on the way back, but it made hardley any difference to the time it took. Welsh roads are the killer.

Al I take it you have got your board back if you went to Bristol?:

I done it in 3hrs 15 mins leaving hertfordshire at 4.30 am going to borth and 5 hrs 15 mins coming home due to 3 caravans and a sunday driver in his 4x4 on the welsh roads almost doubled the time on welsh roads from saturday morning.
Then just after welshpool just before I got there either a removal van cut the corner or the alfa ran wide, anyway the alfa had no bonnet front wing and half the engine was hanging off. Only the police was there so guess everyone was ok. Rest of the journey was moving ok til it came to where the bigger roads joined in, end of m54 , the M5, M42 and getting back on the M1 things got a bit sticky. One nice bit(not) was the big patch of glass in the outside lane on the M1 they had all the speed restrictions up but why didn't they just sweep it up ?
