Which kind of board

Hiya

My friend has asked me to help him find a suitable surf board. He is going to be surfing quite regularly so needs to get his own board. He is 6ft4" and weights between 15 to 16 stone. He isnt fat in the least, just tall and well built. What sort of board would be buoyant enough and big enough for him?

Go for a 7'6" to 8' foot mini mal, make sure its around 22" wide, and no narrower than 20".

Id avoid going for a full mal, as to begin with theyre harder to get out back, and if he wants to take the short board route after learning itll be a far bigger task than going down from a mini mal.

What about 9ft?

I would say 8 or 9 feet would be good. Agreed with Shem on the dropping down however 6'4" is pretty big so 8' or 9' would be ideal.

Tell him not to invest too much money either as he's likely to bang it around a bit if he's beginning.

Apprantly he got a BIC Natural Surf board. 7 foot 9. 22" wide I think. He seems to like it and says its not too difficult to ride.
