Hi,
I'm new to windsurfing and totally overwhelmed by all the board and rig offerings out there, so can anyone help with these.

I have a choice of a:

Starboard Carve 145

Fanatic X Ray 160

Fanatic Cross 140

I'm currently learning to use the harness, beach / water start, but have not really attempted/mastered the foot straps.

I've been learning on a Fanatic Viper.

Any opinions gratefully received...

All of those sound as though they are about right.. Although it will depend on how much you weigh, but for an average weight guy at your sort of level then they something around 140-160 litres is probably ideal. All of those boards will provide enough stability and have enough volume to allow you to uphaul when necessary and provide a good platform for mastering the basics of harness and footstrap use. They will also allow you to progress and will serve you well as a large freeride board for lighter winds once you have moved onto smaller boards too.

There is little bad to say about most modern boards these days and much of what is best for you will come down to personal preference, but as far as I know a mid-large freeride board (which all of those are) should suit you perfectly. Of course, if you can try before you buy then that would be a good idea. If you are buying from a shop and are serious about the purchase then most will have some way of allowing you to demo a board.

Hi Al,

Thanks for your thoughts.

I weigh around 85kgs. With that in mind can you recommend which would be the best and give me a ball-park secondhand price for boards in good condition please??
