I belive there will be some racing organised as well for all to join in no matter what level. This sounds like a great idea to get everybody involved. I am planning to be there all weekend.

justal - 16-5-2008 at 07:43

Cool.... I've never tried racing but it sounds like fun as long as it isn't too serious.

Lets hope there's enough wind and a decent turn-out.

Here you go... More info on the June Demo day and Slalom event at Aberdovey.

quote:

JUNE DEMO + UKWA SLALOM EVENT ~ ABERDOVEY 21st ~ 22nd JUNE

This will be our second demo of the the year but our first Main Event! With all the UK importers who supply the shop in attendance. Plenty of toys for you to look, touch and try... maybe buy..?

The Slalom event, hosted by JP / Neilpryde will no doubt be quite a sight. The event is open to anyone and far from being a very serious race is more about getting out there and having the opportunity to blast around a slalom course against your mates... In addition to the racing there will be technique clinics from the UK's top flight sailors and if all goes to plan a couple of International stars will be in attendance too... There is also a share in a £1,000 prize fund and loads of give aways to be had.

In addition to the windsurfing action there will be a ruck of SUPs for those of you who haven't yet had the opportunity to have a go to have a play on. Boards will be available from Starboard, Oshea and Mistral - give it a go you might just like it!

It is safe to say that it is definitely going to be an action packed weekend - just make sure you're part of it!!!

You can register for the UKWA Slalom event by calling the shop on 01543 505084. For futher information on the UKWA please use the link below:

Or if you are just interested in the demo come along to Aberdovey, the kit is usually ready by 10:30am on both days and remember the demo kit is free to use.

Latest info from Boardwise regarding the event:

quote:

What do you mean you've forgotten it's the Boardwise Demo weekend..?

We've been working hard getting everything sorted for the weekend. We now have all the the UK importers who supply the shop ready and prepared to be in attendance with the latest kit and the Barbeques have been stoked, we just need YOU to turn up to make all the hard work worth it! With plenty of toys for you to look at, touch and try... maybe buy... why wouldn't you want to make the short trip to the coast to have a go...? Remember, Aberdovey is a fantastic flat water location for sailors and a great little village with plenty for friends and families to do.

In addition to the windsurfing action there will be a ruck of SUPs for those of you who haven't yet had the opportunity to have a go to have a play on. Boards will be available from Starboard, Oshea and Mistral - give it a go you might just like it!

With all the new toyz on tap for you to have a play with you'll probably be thinking that the weekend just couldn't get any better... then you'd be forgetting the Third round of the JP / Neilpryde UKWA Slalom series which is taking place over the same weekend at Aberdovey. To enter the slalom event will cost you just £40, but for this you will get all of the following:

UKWA membership

Entry to the Slalom weekend event

Entered into the £1000 prize draw

UKWA Slalom Series T Shirt

Third Party Insurance

Your own National sail number

Free talks from Dave White on speed and generally go fast, Xavier Ferlet on the technical aspects of racing and for the young and lady sailors in attendance we have Tanya Saleh who will be giving tips on technique over grunt...

If you'rer sailing back and forth and at least trying to gybe then slalom racing will be great fun for you and something you should defiantly try out and the welcoming atmosphere of this series provides a fantastic opportunity to get afloat.

It's important to remember that this year has seen some radical changes to the national slalom series making it more accessible and enjoyable to the recreational sailor and first time competitor. The events have been set up around local retailers and their valued customers and they have been planned to offer as much value for your entry fee as possible. In addition to all the above benefits there will be on the spot prizes, so every new entrant will get something from harness lines to uphauls!

To register for the slalom event reply to this email, with your name and contact details or call the shop to register on 01543 505084.

Or if you are just interested in the demo come along to Aberdovey, the kit is usually ready by 10:30am on both days. Remember that the demo kit is free to use.

Wind not looking great at the mo for the weekend but it may be OK for bigger kit on the Sunday and I guess there will be SUP boards to play with on the Saturday.

The forecast could of course change for the better. (Fingers crossed)

having a look at windfinder tonight and sunday looking great SW; keep praying and the weather might just go through faster. if we can get sundays wind for saturday and mondays wind for sunday WEHEEEEEE

Spooker - 20-6-2008 at 07:44

mmmmmm....

It IS looking rather promising for Sunday now, all the weather sites showing 20+ knots SW.

Now if I can stay sober(ish) at this wedding, and set my alarm early Sunday......

Could be worth the £40-odd for diesel?

justal - 20-6-2008 at 07:47

Yep, looks good at the mo. Sunday afternoon could be epic.

If it's that windy I shall be able to sail across to Aberdovey rather than paddle across in my canoe!

Al.

AndyW - 20-6-2008 at 08:26

hmmm, yes I think we'll make the trip for Sunday.

See you over there.

justal - 20-6-2008 at 18:51

Nice one Andy... Steve is planning a trip here too... Not sure if we'll actually go across to the demo yet or just sail from here as it is likely to be better here in a SW.

Al.

Impi - 21-6-2008 at 10:41

I should be coming down as well but I dont think the waves will be good for me as I have now knackered my back. Had some good sessions in Greece though on the flat water and warm winds and water. Brrrr it is cold in the UK

shem - 21-6-2008 at 12:36

Just got back from aberdovey, they were struggling to move on the biggest sail and boards Ive ever seen, was dissapointed to see no sups there for trying. Tommorow looks epic hey, a few of us will be launching fronm the main car park tennish tommorow, then probably hack up to the surf on the point.

justal - 21-6-2008 at 14:58

No SUP's??? I thought they said

quote:

In addition to the windsurfing action there will be a ruck of SUPs for those of you who haven't yet had the opportunity to have a go to have a play on.

I know thats what most people here were looking forward to having a go on so they missed an opportunity there if they didn't bring any with them!

Al.

shem - 21-6-2008 at 16:52

my thoughts exactly, I think there was one on top of the starboard roof rack, but it didnt get off there, shame I wanted to buy one, and Ill probably shop online instead now. Maybe theyll get them out tommoro, Itll be a bit windy though I recn! Did you manage to obtain enough points Al?

justal - 22-6-2008 at 04:07

Not really, but I shall be out there anyway... Windy already here, 30-35 knots with gusts close to 40!

Al.
