I recently purchased a new Select powerbox fin and discovered that no matter how tightly I tried to screw it in, about 3mm of the adaptor head protruded along the full length of fin box. I'd heard this was a common problem so I took some sandpaper to the head in an attempt to remove the offending mould flashing.

Unfortunately I've been a bit of a dope and gone too far! The fin now fits flush in the box but the leading edge of the head can lift a few millimetres if subjected to a minor impact from the front - the rear of fin sinks a few mm when this happens.

Clearly I've over done it with the sanding. Is it possible to replace the adaptor head of powerbox fins? If so, how? Is the fin glued into the head and how do you remove it?

Any advice on this process or alternative solutions would be much appreciated..... or don't I need to worry about a little fin movement under shock loads?

I don't think the fin and the head (i'm not sure what the technical term is) are meant be separated without the use of some heavy duty power tools, and then, I don't think you'd be able to reattach it properly.
I'd recommend packing out the back of the box with just the right amount of er... something, so when you screw it in hard and then give it a whack, it doesn't sink.... I used to use folded up bits of coke can which seemed to work OK.

you can replace the over sanded bit with some ding stick, when it goes off you resand it.

Place a bit of blue tack under the fin, and if its width is also loode in the box, use some thin card board to pack out the width.
