I'm planning on buying a new kite and have come accross the Peter Lynn C-Quad kites.

What do you think of them?
They say they are good for land and water based activities; is this true?
Any good or is it just the price that makes them worth while?

Many questions, hope to get some answers.

They are OK... Loads of power for their size, a little different to fly than a foil (such as a Blade) or an LEI (such as a Wipika), but then, LEI's and foils are also different to each other.

They are a single skin kite that can be fitted with an foam leading edge that is supposed to make it suitable for use on the water. However, it does make the kite float, but relaunching it from water isn't easy... Again, relaunching a normal foil such as a Blade from the water is completely impossible, and relaunching a so called water-realaunchable LEI kite isn't that easy either.

people do use them on water, you just have to be prepared to swim back if you crash it and can't relaunch.. Again, you should be prepared to do this with any kite.

For land-based activities they are fine. Lots of power, a nice cheap price and well-behaved in the air, just a little different.

They pack up into a round flat bag which is a little weird, so they won't fit into a rucksack if thats likely to be a problem, but otherwise they will fly and pull you around the beach no problem.

See if you can try one before you buy though.

When using it as a "water relaunchable" I expect the foam edge will affect how the kite flies; drag and weight?

I'll see if I can borrow one before I commit to it.

You're probably right. I've never flown one with the foam 'noodle' on it though, so can't say for sure.

C-Quads will relaunch from the water if you can touch the floor, if you cant walk up wind or provide some other form of resistance your gonna be swiming. I've had to self resque my 8.5 & it aint easy & its def not something I want to do again.

C-Quads also have dacron bridles which stretches when its dry, stretches some more when its wet, then partialy shrinks back when they dry. They spoil an other wise great kite.

If you surf in a very sheltered & safe enviroment go for it but be aware there not the greatest thing.

I have a 4.2 for sale if you are interested. kite in nice condiditon and have just replaced the carbon rod as they do break over time. Yours with lines and bar for £140!
