Coastal recommendations for Beginners
media100 - 11-7-2007 at 19:18

Hi there,

New to kitesurfing.....qualified to IKO Level 2 last week in Egypt, and got the bug big time.

Can you recommend any places in the south / south east (I'm based inland at Basingstoke) to get some more practice without killing myself.....preferably with a equipment hire place!!

Thanks for your time....

Simon

you wil struggle with hire in the uk, camber sands and around that area is a good place to start..but there are restrictions....do a google search and speak to the local shops

Hi there, there are some good spots around southampton I believe and Poole harbour is pretty good for learning too. If you fancy travelling a bit further Southend on Sea is fantastic for learning at the right tide as it is waste deep flat water for about 2 miles out! in an Eastlery Lydd is pretty much the same too.

Check some local shops as col says, camber is good at low tide but is getting quite hectic these days.

Happy learning!

If you around Basingstoke get up to Crabtree (the field near junction 6 of the M3) on a windy week day evening. There will be a few of us a about. We are trying to plan some evening sessions now too.

Have a peek at Flexi forums under the "meets" section there's a Basingstoke thread there where we argue and make arrangements.

We have been going to Poole (too crowded). Hayling island is a must but club memebership is needed. One of the Witterings is also worth a look. One is club only the other isn't. Plenty of other spots around too.

Give us a shout, I tend to spend a lot of weekends in N Wales at the moment but there's a few other guys about
