Hi everyone,

I am new to this site/forum and want to take up bodyboarding with my Springer Spaniel. He loves water, and likes to swim so I guess that's a good start.
Does anyone else know of any other dogs that bodyboard?

That's pretty unusual. I don't know any dogs that bodyboard, but i have a few suggestions to make....hey if this baby can bodyboard why can't your dog?

Anyway, first of all you could teach your dog to lie down on the board when your on land, eg. in your back garden. Give the dog treats if he/she manages to do it. Make him get used to that...you could even try to make him sit on it as well as lie down so he's doing drop knee bodyboarding when in the sea.

Once he/she is confident to do that try doing it in the sea. It may be easier to put the board in the shallow part of the sea, lie him down on it and then take him out while he's still lieing down. When you get to the waves, turn around and push him when a wave comes along. (You might want to have someone in front of the wave to collect your board and dog if it bails!

I saw someone bodyboarding with a large chocolate labradour in Newquay, so you won't be on your own.

Also if you watch Blue Crush, there's a guy surfing with a dog on his longboard.

Maybe it's not that uncommon?!

Some friends went body boarding with us and their Black Labradore tried it but couldn't hold onto the board.

She could body surf though, and spent ages in the surf.

Unfortunately she was enjoying herself so much that she dislocated her tail and couldn't wag for a couple of weeks. A Lab that doesn't wag is a strange sight.

If you get your hands on "The Endless Summer II" you'll see a dog bodyboarding within the first ten minutes. His owner even gave him a wetsuit.

I think that as long as the dog can stand on the board when floating then it should be no problem pushing him into a wave.
