Hi there, im just wondering if you live close to a beach and if so whats it like? do you get good surf? Whens the best time to pay a visit? etc

I live pretty close to a beach. and right now theres no surf, no wind and its been invaded by Midlanders for the Bank Holiday Weekend!!!

As with most of the UK, there is no 'best time' to pay a visit in order to get surf. Most places in the UK are more consistent in the winter, but that doesn't mean that there can't be spells of extremely good surf in the summer too. It also doesn't mean that there won't be long flat periods in the winter.

If you are trying to plan a trip in advance, then its ALWAYS going to be a gamble as to whether or not you'll get good conditions. This is true anywhere, but especially so in the UK.

Where in Pembrokeshire are you?? you have plenty of good beaches around you and they are fairly consistent there too. Check out the Beach Guide on this site for info on all the beaches around you.

Hi all, you know that i don't live near the coast (the closest i live near is Sutton-On-Sea....it's dirty! )
I came across a website where you can ask a proffesional when the surf is predicted to be good at a certain place. It may not be accurate, but it may give you a slight idea of when to go. Unfortunately i've forgotten the website address....so i'll try and find it.
Does anyone else have something similar to this?

hey im a newbie too,

im in Australia on the east coast.
last weekend was bloudy awsome with big barrels rolling through all the local breaks.
the offshore breaze made a steep ramp, for an easy air boost on my bodyboard.

Wicked! I'd love to live in Oz. Isn't it supposed to be the home land or mecca of bodyboarding? Hey, toobalicious is the east coast of Australia renound for good surf...is it the main source of surf, or is there surf in other places. What's the best place to sponge do you think?

toobalicious - 8-5-2004 at 23:01

in oz there is surf all around the country. in all of the states there are some realy heavy reef and point breaks such as Shark island and Cyclops and the newly discovered shipsterns down south.

the bodyboarding culture here is spreadin realy quick. every summer when the water is warm new groms hit the beaches with all the new equipment, its good most of the time.

the east coast has the majority of ppl surfing it because this is where all of the ppl mainly live, so yer its the source.
i think the best wave is australia i hav seen break wound be margaret river, it has the longest barrel, 10-20s. i want togo there on a roadtrip when im outa sckool

thanx for the reply
