kelvin - 9-7-2008 at 16:34

Hello Al and co
guys are abondoning the normal fat face trip this yr to try something different .

Plan is to hit west/north wales for a long weekend instead . SEPT 12th-
Plan so far is head up your way Fri , catch some sailing or trail riding friday , overnight sleep then depending on forcast trail ride or head further up to Rhossy sat .

So 1st question , looking for somewhere to park up camp fri at Borth , pub car park ! sand dunes ! whatever ! what can you suggest .

Obviously looking to sail if any good waves, wind and try some of the trails ,
wind waves can sort easlily but who,s intrested in some trail guide of the area ?

Sounds like a plan kelvin!

There are plenty of campsites in Borth or you can just park up in the dunes.

I'd be happy to come out for a ride and show you round some of the local trails too, as I'm sure would a few others. As far as I know, that Friday should be fine as well... I have a wedding reception to go to on the Saturday evening, but that shouldn't affect anything.

Count me in!

kelvin..

Are you guys still coming up this way next weekend?

If so, what are your plans. When will you get here, where are you staying what trails would you like to do?

Al.

yea still o track
looking to get to borth friday late aft .
then sail or catch a trail weather depending .
not sure about trail choice , but bikes we on more downhill based so the harder the better going down .

Looking to camp up fri nt in the dunes , dont worry we aint going to leave a mess like some recent posts .

take the sat as it comes then again depending on weather aim is to head further north but maybe an early morning trail or sail before moving on .

But theres no real hard and fast plan .
At lease its looking like the rain will go , but wind aint looking so good .

AL how far from borth is the "beast brenin" trail ?
have you ridden ?
Or is there something that you would recomend better

justal - 7-9-2008 at 16:05

The Beast ay Coed y Brenin is probably just over an hours drive from here... Would be best for you to do that on your way north from here as you will be passing it.

Local trails are those at Nant yr Arian... Nothing really 'downhill' orientated there, but still some nice purpose-made trails. Other option would be the Climachx just north of Machynlleth (about 25 minutes from Borth)... Again, purpose built trails but final descent is good.

had a map out at bootsale today .
seems nant a arian we be passing on drive up fri aft
so if wind no good be taking in a trail there

Wind looks pretty good for Friday afternoon at the moment (although it is a long way off yet so that has to be taken with a large pinch of salt).

We'll see what its doing later in the week, but I'll be up for either a sail at Ynyslas or a ride at Nant yr Arian on Friday afternoon.

Kelvin....
Wind looks pretty poor now, so it looks as though the best bet will be a ride from Nant-yr-Arian.

What time will you lot get there? I'll meet you there.

yep winds gone ,
shame had the offer of all the puravida demo gear , the witchcraft looked tempting with early forcast but save the space now .
We leaving around 10am fri morn , at a guess I think 3hr drive so some time after 1pm arrival .
have you done syfydrin ? some of the other trails at 9k seem short .

justal - 10-9-2008 at 18:29

Yep, These trails on on my back door so I've done them all... Syfydrin is nice but quite remote and XC orientated... Although it does incorporate both the Pendam and Summit trails as well. There is plenty of other unmarked stuff out there as well so we can do a circuit of Pendam / Summit and then see if we fancy something else as well in which case we can either head off and do the northern loop of the Conti (Syfyddrin) trail or maybe go somewhere else... There's plenty to do.

Nice ride yesterday guys...

Looks like no wind for today (Saturday) either, so hopefully we'll get to do the Climachx Trail.

Shem... Are you going to join us?

Al.

yep that conti was a bit off the norm ,
very different to what we expected .
The climachx was a lot more like it that final decent is very good .

Fininshed off on Sunday with dragons back at coed a brenin ., which was very good except that long fire road loop out back for sod all , stinky's hate fire roads !

All trails graded black (severe) but think this is more for the distance than the technical difficulty , got loads pics and do a bit more thourgh write up later .

Shame no wind for some form of sailing but hey 3 days trail riding in sunshire after last couple weeks rain cant complain .

justal - 15-9-2008 at 12:36

There was a tiny bit of wind in the estuary on Sunday morning, but it only got to 15 knots so nothing too exciting.

Good to meet you all. Hope Jerry's shoulder isn't too badly damaged? Did Ryan do the Dragons Back on Sunday?

Let me know if you are heading up this way again either for a sail or bike ride.

If there's wind I might see you on the weekend of the 27th & 28th for your weekend event... Not sure if I can make it yet though.

Look forward to seeing the photos.
Cheers,
Al.
