Weekend 9th & 10th Feb
jon d hat - 5-2-2008 at 18:35

Looking like the winds dropping off on Sunday so I've managed to get Friday off. Southerly at the moment so I'm wondering if any of the usual suspects are up for Dyfi or Blackrock..been a while..

Will have MTB on board if anyone's up for a pedal on Sunday?

mNeil - 5-2-2008 at 18:45

hi Jon we must have posted at the same time!
thinking BRS

jon d hat - 5-2-2008 at 19:13

Yep Neil. I pressed the post button and !Ay Puesto! You'd posted the same topic..Great minds n all that.

Would be great to get a trip upto BRS in before any restrictions kick in...In the right area for a spin arround the Marin Trail on Sunday too.

We'll see if others are up for it too.

shem - 5-2-2008 at 19:52

Im up for BRS on Friday, but not the weekend, let me know if your there John. Could do a kite in the morning, then bike in the afternoon to guarantee a adventurer packed day. Wot about you Al, I could meet you in mach if you fancy sharing a ride up?

justal - 5-2-2008 at 20:19

I've gotta work on Friday I'm afraid.... So I can't make it. might be up for a ride over the weekend though.

Al.

shem - 5-2-2008 at 21:25

Im on for that, climachx for a change?

jon d hat - 5-2-2008 at 21:33

Shem, I'll defo be over Friday, happy to sail and pedal if thats what your into. If it's to be BRS, it's a 4.9m tide so I doubt that we'll get on the beach till about 10-10.30. Also think it's about an hours drive from BRS to the Marin trail. I'll give you a bell on thurs after work to finalise arrangements..

I'm still up for a pedal on sunday..don't mind having to travel if necessary.

[Edited on 5-2-2008 by jon d hat]

shem - 5-2-2008 at 22:00

only 30 mins from brs to coed y brenin. Sounds good, Ill drop u a line thursday night.

jon d hat - 5-2-2008 at 22:10

Marin Trail is located in Gwydyr forest near Betws y coed..25km red.. have done it before but would be happy to re-visit, however, I'm equally happy to go coed y brenin..loads of choice there. I'll spk to you thurs evenin shem an make a decision then.. either venue will provide plenty of thrills and challenges.

col123 - 5-2-2008 at 22:46

all this pedalling lark....might join you one day but it'll have a 450 engine in it..

mmmmm... honda crf450x

Kitefish - 5-2-2008 at 23:15

Me thinks it will be a BRS weekender, nice trial for the new bus

shem - 6-2-2008 at 09:10

Hey Col was out on a crf450 last weekend, 3 of my mates have got them. Awesome bikes, absolute monsters. Very hard to keep on 2 wheels, super light, However, if you want it for trail riding rarther than motor cross, dont get it, theyre just to much. Theres so much power at the back wheel, they wont get up steep climbs, and pulling off on wet grass is virtually impossible with out leaving a creator behind. If u want it for general riding go a xr instead. My trusty old ccm370 will have to do me for now!

Graham - 6-2-2008 at 10:47

Do they do a CRF1000X....???
Col might need the power
I just got myself a shiney new CRF250X

Would join you all for the MTBing but I'm off to Austria Friday for a week but about next weekend though.

[Edited on 6-2-2008 by Graham]

mNeil - 6-2-2008 at 11:04

will probably have to spend the night at the far end by the rocks on the entrance road. will be up friday evening looking forward to a guided tour of the Galaxy class Mr Fish
Ka Ploch as they say in Klingon!

nick-r - 6-2-2008 at 11:55

that is one sweeeeeet looking piece of machinery, but i think i liked you alot more when you only had an xl600.........

i think the crf450x that col is taling about is a bit smoother than the motoX version crf450 you tried shem......designed from the ground up for enduro, also his extra poundage should help with traction.....

how do you fancy taking us on that trail across happy valley as soon as we get a windless weekend.....?

shem - 6-2-2008 at 21:01

could do, I went up there last week and its rough as hell, not in a great way either. The mate of mine with the crf450 is 17 stone and 6'6, and its still monos every where! Beast

mNeil - 7-2-2008 at 09:30

might be thinking about getting into this green lane-ing thingy with you lot; just need to find some transport with suitable stabalisers!

nick-r - 7-2-2008 at 11:16

neil, get a road legal motoX quad.........with built in stabilizers.

i'm just looking at a new bike too...something a bit smaller for the race on 2nd march.........wotever you do..DO NOT SPEAK TO STEVEBUS!!!! he'll have you entering aswell.....

Graham - 7-2-2008 at 11:34

Ha, Ha....it didn't take long for you think about getting something a little more racey.

Neil - the only bike you will be able to ride on your pre-war car licence is a 50cc.
You'll have to pass your CBT to be able to ride up to a 125cc with a max 33bhp (cost £89.00 & will only last for 2-years)
To ride anything bigger you'll have to pass a direct access test which will take aprox 3-weeks and cost £589.00

dunk - 7-2-2008 at 11:45

Er

Shouldn't you lot be on a motorcross forum????

On the other hand, who cares

I'm going kiteing now anyway

shem - 7-2-2008 at 12:04

Come on Dunk, you know that " He with the most toys wins"!

nick-r - 7-2-2008 at 12:40

FON stands for extreme oudoor activitiies.......yes we all enjoy watersports.....but many of us, especially us lot from the midlands, did'nt have access to water while growing up and motorbikes was our first taste of extreme sports, even though when I first started it was never classified as such.

Most of the people that i've met from FON have come from some other extreme sporting background before getting involved with watersports at ynyslas/dovey.

the massif has got expertise in the following:-
kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, kayaking, climbing, wakeboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, motocross/enduro, powerboating, bmx, mountain bike, paragliding, sailing, kite landboard and bugying and maybe more. and thats just the people that i've met from the borth side.....it's the love of adventure, be it by bike, kite or sail. thats wot we all share in common.

peace out...

crezzee - 7-2-2008 at 13:33

Gona try and make BRS on saturday with Rob - last sesh before his Knee op.

nick-r - 7-2-2008 at 15:16

the disco is and fixed just passed it's MOT ..see you all there.

carlessd - 7-2-2008 at 16:41

Nick i'm sure FON stands for forces of nature!! but i could be wrong

Didn't someone get told off not so long ago for talking petrol head on here, maybe i'm mistaken!!

An in neils deffence i dont think you need a cbt to go tearing up the country side and green lanes!!

might be a brs at the weekend after all. just depends if my mates new rear wheel arch comes in time!!

If i dont make it have a good one whatever you all do.

he needs to be road legal.because the lanes or bye ways are public roads..thats why we're allowed to use them..

i think that to avoid further confusion maybe you could write a list of things that we're not allowed to talk about on FON.or maybe you're too busy trolling the net looking for people breaking the rules.......

dunk - 7-2-2008 at 18:03

He he Nick

Don't really know how you get Extreme Outdoor Activities from FON. You could ask Al to change it to www.extremeoutdooractivities.co.uk

You could have your very own motorcross heading. While your at it you could ask him for a Jetski heading for Col and Powerboat heading for myself.

Uh and the price off fuel too!

jon d hat - 7-2-2008 at 18:17

Petrol heads have hijacked me luverly non poluting FON powered weekend

Get yer smelly noisy machinery orf my land

Meanwhile...back on topic..just about to set off for Wales. Looks like Shem may not be up for a pedal tomorrow so looking at the wind, will probably sail. Dunk, will bell you in a bit to see if your up for a sesh. Anyone else?? you'll have to bell me as I'll be on my way. Still be mtb'ing Sunday if anyone's up for it..looks like a crackin weekend on the way.

shem - 7-2-2008 at 19:00

Im hoping to get out, but am at the mercy of my bowels! fingers X I keep my cacs dry, I mean fingers Xd I get out to kite tommorow!

See you all at BRS Oh and it may not be going to blow much but the suns coming out all weekend. Daz is that Keiths new wheel arch on the old VW, say hello from me and hope alls well with CHE. Deiselhead Fish

Spooker - 8-2-2008 at 08:36

Very nice Mr Fish - it does have that certain retro-chique image about it.

Seems to have disabled access facilities to the rear too - very useful for yourself after a session of being dragged around the Irish sea!

col123 - 8-2-2008 at 08:54

Al we soon will be needing a smelly petrol forum...well when i get my new bike anyway..

hey nick i'm going to see a ktm at the weekend.the 450exc...2006 model..

i'm also bidding on a crf 450 2006

shem - 8-2-2008 at 10:32

Bowels seeming better but still not solid, thought youd all appreciate the up date, many thanks for the kind words of concercn. NOT! Let us know when you get it Col. ONly costs about 100 quid to put a day light mot on the crf col, Sweet.

Dunk

carlessd - 8-2-2008 at 17:46

why so deffencive dude just pointing out that this is in the kitesurfing section. ask al for another forum for motor powered stuff i'm sure he will sort it. as i'm sure you know the list of hobbies is endless mate and i dont want to point out the obvious but it is forces of nature dude, what you say al??

maybe we could talk about aj's model ships, neils sewing skills hes getting good at kite repairs these days. climbing theres another good one. Mmmm any more suggestion for a new forum on here??

So does that mean he would need L plates and number plates too dude!! excuse my ignorence.

And of course my oppilogies i didn't realise the word petrol head would offend so much!!

BIG smiles all round.

And remeber this is all your fault colin

nice new van chris you diesel head!! will check it out when i see you next, and yes kieth an i are starting work on ya van this weekend. dont worry we'll look after it well

Fart Boy - 8-2-2008 at 17:49

Well dragging the subject back again, BRS is now looking to low wind wise so may be heading to Anglesey with the family for Saturday.

dunk - 8-2-2008 at 17:57

He He

While we're talking petrol, J de hat and myself were talking about going to "Van Fest" this year for all you V Dub owners.

Dunks

carlessd - 8-2-2008 at 18:59

it is a forum after all...you know, where people talk about things.....imagine al having to censor the posts and banning people for talking about motorbikes...

quote:

it does'nt, it's the petrol heads that offend. apparently.

he will need "L" plates if he has'nt got a full license and deffinately a number plate unless he's planning on riding on private ground.

[Edited on 8-2-2008 by nick-r]

justal - 8-2-2008 at 19:47

Tell you what... I'll move the post to the 'General Forum' that way everyone's happy... the Petrol heads can talk about bikes n stuff and the people who don't want 'petrol heads' in the kitesurf forum can ignore the post if they wish.

Al.

dunk - 8-2-2008 at 20:07

He He

Carbon footprints?

Ok we all drive to the coast to enjoy something powered by nature, But to drive miles just to play on something else powered by petrol?????

Sorry I just don't get it?

I did the Climachx earlier with J de hat, it was fun and We used our legs!

Anybody wana join a campaign against Green-laners?

Just another thought, how many of us share a van to the coast??????

Some big vans out there with one person rattleing around in it. I've had 4 in mine, that was cosy!

Pleeeeeeeeese don't take offence, just my view

Dunk

dunk - 8-2-2008 at 20:11

Oh, by the way,

Just off in my van to take my empty bottles to the recycling!!!!!!!! lol

shem - 8-2-2008 at 20:46

Good points about traveling there dunk. So I suggest that if you dont live within 5 mins of the coast, you shouldnt be allowed to kite surf, because your pollution caused by traveling is wrecking the sea for us local beach goers! ALSO instead of coming down in the camper use a more environmentally friendly motor bike to travel down and camp instead of camper van! (as you have a house here dunk, I shall allow you to carry on kite surfing).

shem - 8-2-2008 at 20:47

By the way gutted I couldnt join u for the climachx today are you up for a spin tommorow or sunday? Think I can control my tail end now, (just).

Dandine - 8-2-2008 at 20:52

Up for Van fest. When is it?

Encee - 9-2-2008 at 05:16

An early rise to look at the forecast and the wind looks marginal so back to bed for me...................

Hope I don't regret it !!!!!!!!

Still I can sleep easy now - saves a trip up to North Wales solo, in a 2.5 litre, gas guzzling, evironmentaly unfriendly V6 ........... :-)

shem - 9-2-2008 at 07:50

Looks like cac wind but sweet surf all weekend, surfin it is!

carlessd - 9-2-2008 at 19:16

I'm just gonna crawl back into that woodwork i came out of me thinks!! see u at the beach sometime dude

peace!!

Loxley - 10-2-2008 at 10:46

hey, what's all this activity against people who live far from the sea ?

i would love to live near the sea, but there are not enough jobs paying a salary suitable to be able to afford to live and have enough spare to enjoy a beach lifestyle.

i may be guilty of having a large van and a boat, but i justified it on the basis of having space to take 2 or 3 mates so we didnt have to take 2 or 3 cars and then buying the boat as i wanted something to do which was still "water active" for when the wind didnt blow and didnt want to feel i wasted the drive over.

i could equally argue, that there are 100's of people who turn up in my back garden of the peak district each weekend ; many on bikes as i live 3 miles from Matlock ( so all you bikers will know of it ). So are only peak district residents allowed to be rock climbers ?

I know or rather hope Shems / Dunks comments were tongue in cheek, but it's a balance between having a great country to enjoy or to sit at home and go to B&Q each weekend.

[Edited on 10-2-2008 by Loxley]

justal - 10-2-2008 at 13:07

Glad I use a wheel-barrow to get my kit to the beach... Wouldn't want to be accused of polluting as well as being a pole-dancer, I mean windsurfer!

Al.

shem - 10-2-2008 at 15:19

You can keep your rocks Loxely weve got plenty of them here as well!! Oh and roads for biking on as well.

LOL!

On a serious note, I know of so many people that live inland that say theyd love to move to the coast but there arent the jobs with good enough salaries to keep them! Personally I think its all down to choice however. If you wanna live inland and work and just get in the sea occasionally then fine, but then dont turn around and tell me Im lucky to live near the coast, because Im not, I live here because I choose to, I earn Ok money certanly enough to buy a few toys from, and support my family, etc. So if you wanna live here do it, any one can. Its just down to actually grabbing the bull by the horns and doing it. Those of you that are civil cervants, would earn the same here as you would inland would you?? Or am I wrong? A friend of mine has just moved here from the midlands, and as well as living closer to the beach has had a pay rise from 25k up to 31k???? Its gotta be good.

nick-r - 10-2-2008 at 18:07

if you've never tried it, then you would'nt know..
we're not talking a five minute bimble around the climachX on a sunday afternoon.
if thats wot you're into, thats fine, it does'nt do it for me.

it's no different from someone riding a motorbike on the road for fun or someone driving a poluting van because it suits them.

or teaching people to drive powerboats on a lake???? or even driving a powerboat at all for that matter. i don't think you're as bothered about the environment at all..you just like to whinge....

not a good time to get caught wandering around the beach with a wheel barrow...especially after dark.

justal - 10-2-2008 at 18:46

Spot on Shem... It has nothing to do with luck, just choices. I chose to live here rather take a job that used my qualifications. The job would have paid 10 times what I'm earning but I decided the beach was more important than the money....

And it isn't just financial either. In order to live here as well as having no money I have to put up with not having a toilet or any proper drains (and therefore no real running water), the slowest broadband known to man, temperamental electricity supply and of course loads of tourists invading us every summer....Not to mention the fact that cas and everything else rust away in a few years and everything is always caked in salt and sand. All part of my choice to live here though and all worth living with so that I can go to the beach every day.

It has to beat living inland and wishing I was at the beach.

Al.

Loxley - 10-2-2008 at 19:12

fair enough comment on my choices, which i should have made 10 years ago

just got back from a most lovely weekend t BRSands. now wind but fantastic sun, company and real ale!!!!!! oh and some rather nice wine if i can remember, i think
glad to hear you have all been passing the time in a merry fashion on this forum

Spooker - 10-2-2008 at 20:02

Seconded mr Blubeard - never had so much fun just sitting on a beach - top weekend despite the lack of wind.
And yes - this thread seems to have generated a lot of interest in the last day or so - you all need to get out more!!

Lets face it we could each fall out with everyone else on the planet if we tried hard enough - everyone's life is different to one's own for many reasons - some under your control some not. But what brings us together is a love on the outdoors - which can be enjoyed in lots of different ways. Life's too short - lets talk up what we have in common, not where we differ.

Sermon over - and no mention of Sharia law either.....

Loxley - 10-2-2008 at 20:08

exactly spooks, i love going to borth because everyone there gets on well together, helps each other out and its relaxation and distraction from the life we lead monday to friday.

glad you all had a good time this weekend, even if the wind didnt make it.

see you all next weekend !

just been looking at the long range and looks like we will be in for easterly for maybe the next 2 weeks.arghhhhh will have to make a plan maybe Dovey-side in the estuary? gee just look at my tan!

justal - 10-2-2008 at 20:20

Strange there was no wind at BRS.... I'm sure I saw that Impi was out windsurfing at Rhosneigr yesterday.

Still, is was like summer here and the surf was good.

you don't have to retire to the woodwork daz.....i just meant that seeing as you had'nt posted on here for a while, it seems that you must feel quite strongly on the subject to have come out of the woodwork to give me a ticking off.......anyway, i'm thinkin of getting rid of the bike and getting a jet-ski if anyone else is up for it, i've seen one on ebay with 2 engines, 900HP, it can do 130n knots apparently......on flat water of course, perfect in the estuary..

just kidding.

Phew....can of worms!!

Back on topic.. superb weekend..great weather..company and activities

Mr Fish-Bainger, consider your new weekend accomodation well and truly christened. Thanks for putting up with us all till the early hours. Nice motor!

Cant believe that the second week of Feb has been so good to us all. Personally, I managed three days of mtbing at four different venues, not a cloud in the sky and quality company. Yep, finished off my long weekend with a trip around the Marin Trail (the first 'propper' mtb trail that we attempted) Very leggy but well worth the trip. the views were so much better this time with clear skys, I was able to take in the stunning view, including the last remnants of snow on top of Snowdon. Bumped into a couple a guys half way round that live in Nuneaton who put me onto another trail in the Gwydyr forest (Short at 7 miles) but worth a look.

Roll on next weekend... With trails like that at yer fingertips..who needs wind..ok..ok I do realy

shem - 10-2-2008 at 22:01

This is axcatly what forums are for, talking and discussing, Im sure every body does it from a friendly point of view, and banter is as much fun as kiting at times, ( I think so anyway). I dont envy your predicament one bit Loxely, hope your able to sort things out.

shem - 11-2-2008 at 08:15

Does Rabbit shooting count as a force of nature????? Just wondering if I can start listing my shooting sessions? After all Im using FORCE against NATURE?? It invloves lots of expensive toys, and walking around the welsh hill side? Your thoughts will be much appreciated!

Mmmm Rabbit stew tonight!

Loxley - 11-2-2008 at 09:05

Shem,

my best mate shoots regularly, his pickup always has dead animals in the back and under the seats.

he hasn't kited for a while but if he knew he could bring his guns down to wales I am sure it would entice him back.

shem - 11-2-2008 at 09:34

I was washing the blood stains out of my pick up just 10 mins ago! Not that it would be legal of course, but ynys las dunes are a perfect shooting ground for bunny bashing!!!!!!!! ( day and night entertainment all in one spot)!

Loxley - 11-2-2008 at 11:12

the reason he is usually too knackered to kite at the weekend is because he has been lamping till all hours !

he has a neat twin clay launcher,
whats the score on finding somewhere to launch them out to sea or into the estuary ?

up here, we use a mates field for a clay pigeon session.

ajwhitewater - 11-2-2008 at 11:42

Sounds like you had a good time, went for a surf, hells mouth, paddled out beyond the break sat there for a while paddled back in , had something to went back out, total score of waves in 3 hours 1 and half , humm need to work on the fitness bit lol still it was a good day to be out.

shem - 11-2-2008 at 17:25

Doubt youd get permission to beach launch them, youd prob find a willing farmer though. I shoot rifles with night sights, nice and discreet!

Fart Boy - 11-2-2008 at 18:24

Well the family enjoyed the day trip to BRS which is the main thing. The wife is slowly getting attached to the camper also which I knew it would just be a mater of time.

Had a great day on saturday, went to BRS - zero wind so called Funsport at Rhosy and they said there was 20knts up there so back in the van and up up to Newborough. Had a nice little sesh in the sunshiiiine with about 12 other kiters. Stoped at Betws-y-Coed for chips and beer on way home

Not yet.... We need another 18 replies to this post to get it into the top 5, and about 1,100 more replies to get to the top spot!

well my reply to Neil's helicopter post yesterday didnt seem to make it !

So, thats one more to add to the list, if it was there, but would have been two if i had replied to myself.

MNeil - I have a 30 size nitro heli - Hirobo shuttle, its probably the most extreme form of rc there is, (trying to make it sound cool not geeky) Its very noisy, and the blades spin at 2000rpm and have lumps of lead in them for balance. Its like a radio controlled flying circular saw. - anyone need a hair cut?

Er bunny bashing?

There's a can of worms........That should be on a bloodsports forum.

I personally don't mind people having to killing to eat, but to kill for fun is beyond me.

shem - 13-2-2008 at 17:05

Mark, what speed did you get done for?

If it's 35mph, then you might get the option for a "speed awareness" course. I got a notice last May when I was driving to Newborough at 35mph.

The North Wales police gave me a nice option of a £60 "speed awareness" course. At least you don't get points on your license, and after the course I had a good 12m session. ;-)
