Thanks for the heads up Dunk. I've just booked a holiday to Corralejo for next April. Hopefully this will be ancient history by then!

when i went out with the pks lot in 2001 ( i think) there was talk then of problems with the flagbeach centre, letting students drift out to sea etc kit going walkies...infact the local tossers look out for the hire cars and peel back the door frames of the cars and nick kit and money etc ..

shame as it can be a great place to surf etc

I saw this too through the Flexi site and made comment. My experiences were not good either and now I have travelled and kited a bit I don't think I would ever return. Kenya, Egypt, Turkey, Morroco and of course Aberdovey all much better experiences

See the comments on flexi site.

Oh great!!!! Booked my holiday Monday, saw dunks post Tuesday. I know there is an issue with the Flag Beach set up but what is the place like if you have got your own kitesurf kit and you steer clear of these people? (Going April next year)

Darren,

I went there this year at the end of July for two weeks. We stayed in the Riu hotel, and I kept my kit at the Flag Beach centre. I hoad no problem with any kit being stolen, but I did make sure it was all packed away when I wasn't there. If I had the choice again, I'd rent a cheap car and take the kit with me. It was a bloody long walk from the hotel to the kite beach !!!!. No one is really keeping an eye on your kit, so there is a risk it could get nicked.

I had 4 good days of wind, where the conditions were very good, but very busy. If you like coming to the shoreline and pulling tricks in the shallows, your going to have to muscle in. I didn't have much hassle with the locals, but everyone is there for themselves so rules on the water don't seem to apply.......it's not a very friendly place.

Regarding the centre, Ben seemed ok, but not the most helpful, the young lads working there are just having a laugh. You can pay for the rescue, but I wouldn't trust it to get you out the sh*t....I never saw anyone on the lookout for downed kites.

Check the tide tables, Flag beach has some nasty tocks at low tide in the water. Only a problem when you are close to the beach.

If the wind had been better, I guess it would have been an ok holiday, but you normally hope that the kiting destination is better than home, but Flag beach does not even come close to Aberdovey. I won't be going back.

If you need any further info, just pm me.

Cheers,

Simon

Thanks to Si for his review, think I am going to change my booking..... El Gouna?? Reviews please (before I book this time)

Was out there a few years ago for 2 weeks when I first started kitesurfing, I bought rescue boat cover for the two weeks. The boat never left the shack let alone get anywhere near the water.

Nice beach, remember those rocks though!
