I guess the money to pay for beach amenities has to come from somewhere, but personally I prefer beaches without any amenities.

How crap is that, it's an out-rage another TAX for something that should be free, people already pay in car park fees, toilet fees, and just by paying into the local economies. Just think on Al if you had to pay £4 for each visit to the beach you be would right skint. They will TAX countryside and the mountains next, Oh then how about wind TAX ( £2 for 10-15kts £3 15-20 £6 for 20+kts) robbing B@$£@&$.

people would question what they would be getting for thier extra money so would that mean more amenities which would surely lead to the commercialism of unspoilt beeches,

cant see it happening.

Tourists bring revenue to costal areas just by using local shops pubs etc

when i was a lad my parents would take us to places with limited amenities as it is a cheap holiday for for the already over taxed working family.

A donation box for the r.n.l.i would be a good idea, the down side is in this society we live in some scally would rob it.

this guy Malcom bell sounds like he is or wants to be a politician adding another tax because we want to enjoy ourselves.

I have just hit on an idea to raise money for the weather station- A kitesurfing viewing TAX, i'm usally the one sat on the beach when lot is showing off so I could collect this new TAX or FEE.

Any leftover donation can go in my scrumpy fund.

I know weston super mare councilers were thinking of bringing in a fee a while ago for windsurfers of around £100 a year to launch there, if they did no one would windsurf there, simple as that,

Fortunately this kind of creative stealth tax is unworkable. The government has come up with over 100 such alternative taxes in the last few years in order to prop up Prince Gordon Brown's policies, without putting up income tax. This is probably just another one that they'll bin as it'll be unpoliceable. Pay and display stickers on cool boxes, stickers on sails or what? I don't think so. And even if they did go ahead on certain beaches do you really think the money would go to the RNLI, no it would pay for more civil servants or pay for wheelie bins and stuff.

compulsory third party beach insurance ?
