Ynyslas - Kiters and Fisherman
Encee - 8-5-2005 at 14:42

This is really a contiuation of Chris's thread "having a bit of a moan" but thought I'd start a new one so as all would read it

Yesterday at Ynyslas I was involved in a very amiable conversation with a gentlemen who was fishing from the beach.

He asked if the kitesurfers could possibly stay above the level of the beach to which the fisherman are, as several locals are getting fed up with people kiting close in, near to them and their lines.

He had already moved further down below the third groin so as to be out of the way but there were two or three kiters (myself included) who did end up downwind and while well out of reach of the lines probably did spoil his enjoyment.

I apologised and said that I understood his concerns and would post this item on the forum for all to read and maybe act on.

'Suppose if your "out the back", this won't cause such an intrusion and I think all members of the "Ended Up to Far Downwind Crew" do get out of the water and walk back up around any fishermen but this isn't really the answer.

So I've mentioned it and will do my bit in the future to try and avoid antagonising this situation.

i tend to agree with tring to avoid the fishermen (although has anybody ever seem anybody catch anything apart from a dunk the other week). most fishermen seem to think if there are swimmers, surfers, kiters then they will set up infront of you anyway

i know some do move and at least we provide entertainment for an otherwise cold and frustrating pastime

most of the time we are drifting north away from them but saturday did prove a problem for most of us.

i had one shouting at me when i was surfing at least 300m offshore at low tide. he must have had one hell of a cast.

Yeah, I did get caught the other week! I was out the back and dropped my kite, I got blown down wind onto the only fisherman in the middle of the beach on the North side past the groins, there was nothing I could do, I did manage to launch my kite safely, but got the fishing line caught round my leg. I did manage to get the line off without breaking it though.

The fisherman called over the Coastgaurd who was driving up the beach and apparently said I was kiteing inbetween swimmers, There was no one on that part of the beach except for him! The Coastgaurd spoke to Nick and told him, not to worry, he was just having a moan.

It was the day of the big fishing comp, and there was fishermen right along the beach from Borth to the end of the groins, then him in the middle of the beach. There was nothing I could do to avoid his line. It p!sses me off ,that he told the Coastgaurd a pack of lies, luckily they weren't interested.

I remember walking back up the beach once dying of thirst and there was this fisherman with a bottle of coke, so I asked him if I could hav a swig. He said 'no problem' so I took a swig. Only thing is he was using fish strips as bait and this must have been on his hands as the bottle had manky fish flavour all round the top, yummy! Perhaps coke could market it as a new flavour!
