The first serious surf contest to be held in Mid Wales is due to take place on Saturday the 30th of October weather permitting at the
Harbour Trap in Aberystwyth – and the first prize will be a trip of a lifetime to an exotic surf destination. The contest is
being organized by Holly Rees at STA Travel in Aberystwyth, the student travel company and is aimed at all ages and abilities. The
money raised from this event will be donated to Surfers Against Sewage.
The event offers the chance for Mid Wales surfers to compete on their most well knows local break with surfers from other parts of the
country in a competition format. The competition will be split into Open Shortboard, Open Longboard , Open Women, and an Expression
Session. Heats will be 20 minutes long and surfers will be judged on their best three waves. The contest is hoping for a high standard
of surfing but also a ‘laid back ‘ and fun-orientated approach from contestants.
The main prize will be a trip to Mexico, Portugal, or the USA or alternatively an STA travel voucher. There will be other prizes such
as a C Skins wetsuit, and a custom surfboard and other gear provided by Stormriders in Aberystwyth, pretty awesome prizes for a small
contest!
If conditions are not deemed suitable for the contest it will be postponed for one of the following two Saturdays.
Competitors are advised to book a place early, as the number of contestants is limited, but it may also be possible to enter on the
day.
For further information about entering the contest contact Holly Rees directly on 01970 625767. It will also be possible to get updated
contest information from the Stormriders website forum under the ‘announcements’ section at www.storm-riders.co.uk or on
the shop number 01970 626363. There will be recorded announcements on 01970627676 during the week running up to the event giving latest
information.
Looks like the contest has moved to Borth or Ynyslas which will suit the states of the tide on the proposed day better and creates far
less hassles for the organizers.
Further details to follow.
Looks like the dates been put back a month.

Just to confirm, the STA Travel surf contest in association with Footprint Travel Guides, Reef, and Stormriders has been confirmed as
13th Nov, weather permitting.
I had a chat with one of the organisers at STA today and it looks as though this weekend is likely to be a no go as the surf looks
pretty pathetic at the moment, so its going to be the 20th instead.
Sounds as though theres a good party brewing afterwards as well!!!
Al.
Oh yeah, and the list of prizes keeps growing....
The first prize will be a trip of a lifetime for a month to any European surf destination. There will be other prizes such as a C
Skins wetsuit, Surfing Europe books, T's and Hoodies, Reef Shoes, and other gear provided by Stormriders, Reef, Footprint Travel
Guides, Rail Europe, and Greyhound Australia.
The money raised from this event will be donated to Surfers Against Sewage.
Surf isn't looking too good again for this weekend, so the contest may once again be postponed until the following weekend (27th). I'll
find out for sure today for you.

This is typical of surfing in mid wales!!!
Will it ever happen?
Well, there are plenty of prizes to be given away, so it will have to happen one day!!!
