Weekend Weather 24th & 25th Jan 04
justal - 21-1-2004 at 22:12

Well, it feels like AGES since I've been in the water, and as its wednesday I guess its time to start speculating about the weekend weather.

At the moment to me it looks as though there could be some Southerlies on Friday, nothing too mad, but they may push some surf up to Borth, so I might manage a surf session at the Lifeboat Station... if not, there should be enough wind by the afternoon for kiting in cross-shores at the Golf Course Car Park, or maybe even enough for windsurfing.

Saturday looks as though there will still be wind, W-NW around 17 knots... Maybe enough for windsurfing if the wind is clean, if not then it'll be kiting again. Col will you be here with your Bomba???

Sunday doesn't look too good at the mo.

Anyone else going out at Borth?? If not, where are you all heading for the weekend?

Al.

P.S. This could of course all change by tomorrow morning!!

South looks pretty poor for the w/e. I'm actually in Birmingham so not to bothered but shame for everyone else.

Looks like we are in for a cold snap next week (if what you read in the paper is true) but could be breezy - Al you may be able to bit your low tempreture record whilst out windsurfing/surfing. I once went out on an inland lake when the water started to feeze on the sails when we were derigging - I was young, foolish and keen, also not very good so it wasnt that windy.

It was a nice start to the year especially just after Christmas and 1st w/e in January - I hope the spring brings some nice wind. The days are starting to get a noticebly longer (or is it me being desperate).

Anyway have a good one what ever you do.

Out of vanity i've just read my post - sorry but there are a few mistakes in there
Al - rather than biting your record I meant "beat"
Sorry.

Shaka.... I hope not, I think the coldest ever, including windchill for me was minus 16¬?C. I remember a day last year when I had to put my board in the sea to defrost the footstraps as they were just big blocks of ice.

Just been looking at the charts... The forecasts haven't changed too much yet. Looks as though the wind won't fill in until later than previously thought, so there might be enough for kitesurfing by tomorrow afternoon. The good news is that it should be windy enough all day Saturday and hopefully most of Sunday too.. Although some charts are only forecasting Force 2-3's, while other have Force 4-5's.

Col... If you are coming to Borth don't forget those harnesses!!!

As predicted the surf is here.... Looking nice at Ynyslas, solid 3 foot and as clean as you like!!!

Unfortunately I can't get in yet as I'm still waiting for the carpet fitter to arrive... Grrrr... I hope I don't end up waiting in all day only for him to arrive at 3pm!!

Look at it this way Al....if you weren't waiting in for the carpets you'd be at work so wouldn't be able to go out anyway!

In the end, the surf had dropped off byt the time I could get in, and wasn't that good.... Things are looking good for tomorrow though with Force 4-5 WNW winds. Should be a few people around and lots of new kites by the sounds of it.

so al u work from home?

justal - 24-1-2004 at 09:05

Sort of... depends what I'm doing as I do all sorts.

I came to the Aberystwyth area to do a degree at the university, then liked it here so stayed on to do a PhD, during which time I started doing odd jobs for various people (cleaning, gardening, painting and decorating etc.). After the PhD malarky, I wanted to stay living here but there aren't many jobs in Borth for a carbonate sedimentologist so I just carried on with he odd jobs and added other things to it such as website design, technical drawing and basically anything anyone wants done!!!

All of which means I pretty much CHOOSE when I work or when I don't work!! Good eh!! It also means I get to work for some pretty strange people. Including a crazy German Rock Star called Uli Jon Roth (ex Scorpions) who lives in a mansion near Aberystwyth. Heres his website http://www.ulijonroth.com. You wouldn't believe some of the weird 'jobs' I have to do at his mansion 3 days a week!!

Mind you, I'm trying to get more web design work these days, so hoefully I'll be working from home more often.
