Hi everyone.

IM a 33 year old bloke who wants to spend a few weeks surfing.

Its been years since I last surfed so I need some advice.
What kind of board should I buy?
Where should I surf if I want some fun but dont want to drown?
Whats the best time of year?

I need some where near by to park my camper too preferbly for free.

OK...

1. Probably a minimal... Something around 7'6" although that all depends on your height, weight and expertise, as well as the sort of surfing you want to do and the places you are likely to surf.

2. That depends where you are based, but a nice beach break will be the ideal place to learn, whichever is you closest, consistent beach break really.

3. Winter in this country is generally more consistent, but there isn't a 'best time of year'... Its good when there's surf, crap when there isn't.

4. You'll get away with that in quite a few place... Lots of people park up for free around here, You can get away with it in the winter almost anywhere. Some places, S. Coast, Cornwall, N. Devon and a few others are pretty strict about overnight parking, especially in the summer.

Of course, you could go to the Outer Hebrides... Nice safe beach breaks (as well as ome scary reef breaks!) porbably one of the most consistent places in Europe and you can park on the beach for as long as you like without any worries!!!... No doubt it isn't on your doorstep though, and it will be a little chilly at the moment!

Many thanks for that mate.

IM actually in Manchester although I would travel anywhere for the right experience in Europe.
IM 14 stone and 6 foot.

Thanks.

OK, You'll need a fairly big board then... 7'6" will feel fairly small to you, so you may want to start off with a 'proper' long-board unless you are particularly athletic.

Best place for you to head 'locally' will be N. Wales I should think. Hell's Mouth being the obvious choice.

Anyone seen the many pics of broken epoxy boards on the surf sites?

Ive seen a few but and know that eugene Tollemache rides a particular brand, ive heard they'rs a lot of em snapping. My advice to you NewBoy is to do your research first matey.
