RDM Masts

I'm thinking of getting a skinny 400 mast.

I've not used an RDM mast before.

Anyone have any recomendations for a skinny mast extension or the mast itself for that matter?

Cheers

Andy

I've got a 100% carbon 400cm RDm Gun mast and I love it... IOK, its just a big pole of carbon, but it is so much nicer to use than my normal diameter masts. Forget all the stuff about them being more repsonsive (I'm probably not good enough to really notice that), stronger is good and I'm sure they are, but when it comes to gybing, and manouvres and even water-strating, that nice thin mast to grab is just so nice.. It makes everything so much easier.

They've changed the names of the masts this year, but this is the one I have: http://www.gunsails.co.uk/en/mast_selectWave.htm
I have also got the Gun RDM extension to go with it.

The mast came with an adapter so that booms that won't fit on a RDM mast could be retro-fitted, but as my booms did fit on an RDM I have never used it.

You won't regret going skinny!!

Cheers Al.

I was thinking of the 65% RMD for £176, looks good enough for me.

What are their skinny extensions like, any thoughts?

changed to a skinny last yr , due to the fact I snapped me mast and it was a good day and thats all the local dealer had in his van , no real difference from standard mast , none that I can feel anyway . Your looking at a 400 , assume thats for a 4.5m sail or smaller , why bother for a rig you aint going to get much use out of ?

Cheers Kelvin,

I should point out that I'm not swopping a standard for RDM.

I don't have a 400 at the moment and I need one for my 4.5m as it doesn't work too well on my 430.

So its buy a standard or buy a RDM.

Andy, The Gun extension seems fine to me.. I've had 3 of them (1 skinny, 2 normal) for a while now and haven't snapped any yet!

I think my 400cm mast gets used more than any of my other masts, but when the others break I shall deinitely be replacing them with RDM's

I bought the Cross Wave RDm, 65% carbon.

It arrived today and looks pretty smart. Made in Italy so comes out of the same factory as my Tushingham and Arrows masts. Got the extension from gun too while I was at it.

Just need a nice NE now to try it out in the estuary ;-)
