Loxley - 25-10-2006 at 08:04

Ok, as Neil is away on school hols it doesnt look as if anyone has started a thread to suggest where we head for this weekend ?

Borth, Dyfi or back to the Rock ?

Who's up for it........and heading where ?

Loxley - 26-10-2006 at 08:10

So where is everybody then ?
Does nobody have an opinion or are you all blasting away in these obscene winds we are having while i am stuck in the office !?!?! LOL

justal - 26-10-2006 at 08:46

Borth for me if there's enough wind.

Al.

Spooker - 26-10-2006 at 09:56

What wind there is fri/sat seems to have a lot of south in it, so as I have a day off tomorrow (1 day too bl**dy late by the looks!) I plan to join Neil in Duvy

carlessd - 26-10-2006 at 10:52

i'm off to dovey too. see ya all on th beach

darren byrne - 26-10-2006 at 11:11

Looks like dovey for me then.

Loxley - 26-10-2006 at 12:24

As sunday isnt looking too promising, i was considering just driving over in the car early saturday morning. What are the tide times for the weekend, if i dont get there until after 10am will i be walking on sand for a mile ?

Otherwise, will presume you guys will park up in car park opposite the petrol station, or is there another meeting place ?

Thanks
Mark

Kitefish - 26-10-2006 at 17:09

May do the same as you Mark, that is drive over early Sat morning in me car.

If noone is in that small carpark they will be in the lay-by about a mile out of Dovey towards Towyn below the hotel.

See you there maybe

Loxley - 26-10-2006 at 17:47

hi chris.

well i am going to check the weather tomorrow and if its not too fantastic for sunday I will try and book a B&B for friday night and come home saturday night.

reckon it would cost me £40 in fuel in the camper but only £30 for a B&B and then i would just come over in my company car as i get free fuel !

see you at the weekend, either way i will be there.

is that car park out of town you mentioned the cemetery one ?

Mark

shem - 26-10-2006 at 17:56

Not looking good at all. I think I may have a refreshing weekend off for a change!!

leonardo - 26-10-2006 at 18:06

joining u on that one Shem..crap wind so will don some cross-training hehe

danh - 26-10-2006 at 18:09

im risking it after missing 2 weekends. Will be over dyfi friday night

Loxley - 27-10-2006 at 08:22

Thats alright for you Shem, you can look out the window and if it picks up you can be on the water in ten minutes, some of us land locked kiters have a 4 hour drive to get wet ! LOL

Fingers crossed it will turn out reasonable. Just checked guru and xc and Rhossi is offering stronger winds for saturday so may decide to head up there instead, but i would love to try out the Dyfi side after having a good time at Borth.

col123 - 27-10-2006 at 11:39

i was with neil yesterday ,thursady. and he was heading round to borth for sat/sun as he's parents were being pikeys for the weekend

col123 - 27-10-2006 at 11:40

oh yea if any one see's him tell him he's 7m waroo is in and dan from pks will bring it up to borth on sat.ta

Loxley - 27-10-2006 at 12:48

So given the 'southerly' nature of the wind which is going to be the best side to try from ?

will it not be the dyfi side ?

also, does anyone know the tide times for saturday?

looks like i will be staying with the g/f 2nite and driving over early so should get to the beach for 10am at the latest.

Mark

darren byrne - 27-10-2006 at 13:08

OK , I prefer Borth side, less walking to and from the beach when swapping kites and getting cups of tea. but isn't a bit crap on a southerly??? Advice please Col, Spooks, Al, Shem etc. etc.

justal - 27-10-2006 at 13:33

It can be a little gusty in a southerly at high tide, but only because of the hill at the southern end of Borth... There will be very little difference between Borth side and Aberdovey side in a Southerly... They aren't that far apart afterall!

Wind looks as though it will be SSW anyway, so there will be no difference at all.

High tide tomorrow must be around midday, but I haven't checked.

Al.

Loxley - 27-10-2006 at 13:50

hi shem/ al,

if the tide is high at midday wont that make Borth awkward to launch from as there will be little beach space ?

forgive my ignorance but if you have to land close in shore that will mean running up the hill ?

will not then dyfi be a safer option or will the launch site be in the mouth of the estuary facing dyfi ?

questions, questions i know, but being the man on the spot i hope you will oblige

Thanks.
Raining here in Nottinghamshire at the moment and no wind, so hope its doing better there !

justal - 27-10-2006 at 13:54

Yep, there will be little beach for launching and landing on the Borth side at high tide.... There will be more room on the beach at Graveyards / Dyfi.

Not raining here and gusting to 21 knots!!!

Al.

Loxley - 27-10-2006 at 15:01

Ok then, looks like Dyfi for me !
See you all in the morning guys.

Mark

nick-r - 27-10-2006 at 15:49

borth this weekend mark.....it's looking good for saturday.

darren byrne - 27-10-2006 at 16:19

looks like high tide saturday is about 11am. I'll decide dovey or borth when I get to maccy in the morning!

justal - 27-10-2006 at 16:21

Nope... High tide is around 12.30pm, but it is only 4.2m so should only just reach the pebbles here.

Not looking that windy though so I might have to get my paint-brushes out instead!

Al.

carlessd - 27-10-2006 at 16:38

south or south west dyfi will still be better, i'm gonna go there i think. unless anyone can convince me not to. sw is sweet.

justal - 27-10-2006 at 16:47

Black rock looks windier!

Al.

Loxley - 27-10-2006 at 17:25

c'mon guys make a decision !
i have to set off for my g/fs in manchester in 15 minutes and not sure i can get online again 2nite.

will try and check weather status later tho.

c u guys somewhere tomorrow.

Loxley - 27-10-2006 at 17:41

finally made a decision.
I am going to head for Black Rock Sands .

guru and xc show a better chance of wind.

will be down for the whole weekend next week 4th/5th
anyone got any fireworks planned ?

enjoy dyfi/borth.
see ya's

Spooker - 27-10-2006 at 20:53

great sesh here in Aberdyvi this afternoon. Light winds - 8-15 knots, but out in the estuary with another 6-8 knots ebbing tide was overpowered at times on the 16m OR1. Might have summat to do with the new Nobile 135X44 he he
If no-one turns up tonight will probably go over to Borth in the morning - join up with Neil and Col. Is Neil about to start fiddling a new tune with a bow-diddly kite....???

shem - 28-10-2006 at 06:33

That tide helps in light wind a treat. Just dont put yar kite in it!!!!

justal - 28-10-2006 at 11:26

Just been over to the beach, it's high tide and the water is just about touching the pebbles, although there is still some bare sand by the last groyne.

Wind is about 16 knots, gusting to 20 now and then but easing off to 10 at times as well. There are about 12 kite-surfers out and it's raingin a bit.

It didn't look that exciting so I wasn't tempted to go out myself.

The coastguard was out looking for someone as well though. Not sure who, but the 4x4 was on the beach and the Dyfi boat was out looking for someone or something.

Al.

Loxley - 29-10-2006 at 09:17

well i finally got to borth just after 11 after a diversion via black rock !

set off from home just after 6.30, got to BRS at 9.00am and no one around.

went to the shop and bought a paper and sat there until 10 expectanly.

turned the car to go back up the slip and saw two large fil kites at the far end ! drove down to check it out and it was 2 guys from turbulence.... sonicseal aka tall paul and carl999 ( flexiforum posters )

chatted to paul about a snowkiting trip he is organising to norway for april next year. sounds mint. email turbulence for more info.

anyway, spoke to kitefish who said the gang were out at borth so made the trip down there and got on the water before midday.

started off lightish on the 14m but ended up way down wind and a long struggling walk back up.

gave it a few more tries then dropped down to the 10m

hard work to start with but it soon levelled out. either way i need to get my 12m fixed this week.

cheers all, see you guys next weekend. no diversions this time. LOL

sat in sunshine in north derbyshire this morning just letting the kites dry on the line, but no wind here.

Mark

Fart Boy - 29-10-2006 at 16:46

Al. It was a false alarm at Dyfi. Don't know who caled the life boat but they were told there was a kiter caught in his lines.
