Woolacombe & beyond

Taking the family to Woolacombe for a
week in August.

Anyone know of any restrictions on kitesurfing from the main beach ? (Apart from the hoards of other holiday makers).

Any other local spots ?
Is kiting at Saunton still banned ?

Thanks in advance

I used to work on the beach at Woolacombe and it does get VERY busy.... If kiting is allowed there, I would recommend walking quite a way down the beach towards Putsborough and doing your thing there... Better not to annoy the natives if possible!

You can kitesurf at Wooly but you have to launch past Mill Rock which is about 400m past the stream towards Putts. No other kite sports are allowed ie buggies and landboards. There is often a lot of holiday makers and surfers in the water. Best to get out early morning or evening.

As far as I know Saunton is still banned, but not sure?

Hope this helps

Stick to Putsborough an you won't get any grief, however, the headland there causes it to get very gusty at this time of year as your usualy gonna encounter winds with some southerly in them.

August is without doubt a f*#@ng nightmare, even though the beach is long, there are swimmers dotted all the way along.

You may be better on Saunton, after speaking to someone down that way about a week ago, the ban may have been relaxed for kitesurfing but you must go a good way down the beach well clear of holiday makers. Better off to ask around or have a look from the cliffs up from the big white hotel.

Whatever you do, av a fab one

unless its bang on at wooly dont bother ;as Jon says its gets gusty by the cliff.......best option is west wood hoe, great beach but only launch and play at the northern tip, council restrictions, should be signs me thinks.

Woolacombe isn't gusty (unlessthe wind is offshore).... Putsborough will be but not Woolacombe..

And don't foget the exclamation mark on Westward Ho! It's very important and the locals don't like it if you miss it off!!!!

Heading to Wooly tonight for a long weekend, fingers crossed there might be a bit of wind. I doubt it though.

I imagine the inflatable canoe will get plenty of use again!!!
