Monday 17th June - bike ***** – Around Felixstowe including lunch with ‘Emily’ – sunny periods and warm.

We were both up at 6 and as it was a lovely sunny morning I decided to head out in the van to get some weather pics, stopping off first at the Clifftop car park for the poppies, then a quick walk around Felixstowe Ferry boatyard, the bloom’n football has messed with About Anglia's schedule so don’t hold much hope of getting on there but there is always Julie n the BBC? It was supposed to be light winds today so didn’t even think of windsurfing today, in the end it was probably breezy enough to foil but after 4 days consecutive sailing it was nice to have a day off so we went on a 13 mile bike ride instead! With good weather all day with no sign of showers we had a nice morning at home, me exercises in the garden while Mag dead headed, then I packed a picnic and we set off to have lunch with ‘Emily’ at Falkenham Church. Th avoid as many roads as possible we biked down the hill to Felixstowe prom which was fairly busy near the pier but got quieter as we headed to The Fludyers before turning inland, Mag then showed me the lovely allotments near Kingsfleet school, a magical place tacked out of the way, a friend of hers has a plot there before taking Marsh Lane down to the River Deben with some amazing clouds overhead with no one about, inn fact we hardly saw another soul. The crops are all coming on really well with small birds flitting about and we even spooked a Chinese water deer which ran quickly away as we passed! Then down beside Kings Fleet and back on the country lanes leading to the peaceful Falkenham Church where we enjoyed lunch as a Marsh Harrier flew past. Then across the fields to Kirton,, over the A 14 and down Grimston Lane to our favorite tree lined route back to Felixstowe, the first time we have cycled it this year we think! We spotted a squirrel and spotted to feed the large shoal of rudd I the little pond, then up past the mega warehouse, Morrisons and home for a well deserved cuppa and cake, top day:)
