Today was the last day of any decent wind for a few days so I was keen to go again but it was very light first thing so was not sure if it was worth the 25-mile drive to deepest Essex? Then Robert messaged saying he was loading his car so I decided to give it a try, meeting Robert and Ian on the way:) Today the wind was in a much better direction, straight North, right onshore with some nice sunshine as well which was good as a tad on the chilly side, neoprene socks and hat were the order of the day with only my poor hands suffering:( We all set up as yesterday but soon discovered it was quite a bit windier today and after a short beat off the beach I was up and flying:) The first long run as I went for a gybe at Wrabness I hit the bottom, that’s more scratches in my poor old foil! There were some good gusts coming through and I could have rigged smaller but the 8.5 handled it fine, I just didn’t want to push it too hard going fast as wanted to keep out of the water! After returning past Bradfield I had another great run back through the moored boats at Wrabness, followed by a short beat towards Sutton Point and then gybed and continued several miles down river in lovely smooth water with big gusts and flying through the lulls, just perfect. I turned just before the huge wind farm platform at Parkstone Quay as it was easily gusting 20 knots here. I then had the best run of the day, flying over six miles to Mistley whizzing past a yacht on the way. It was at Mistley that the wind went patchy and I slogged back, then only got going in patches with the wind now very up and down, time to call it a day as the tide had also just turned! So we all enjoyed our second day on the beautiful Stour only spoilt by the shower as I was derigging my sail!
